    2017 conditions

Sorry I haven't gotten back on how Central IL has been this spring, darn work keeps getting in the way. The long and short of it is a very wet April to May then it's been spotty since. Dad in Logan cty has only gotten 0.2 inches since mid may. I'm a little north of him and have had almost 5...

    Illinois Pheasants Forever Meeting 2017

No worries, I could talk about this for hours upon end. Really has turned into a passion of mine. Did they mention nest raiders and which ones were doing the most damage? What percentage of nests where lost due to predators? Nest raiders were really not the issue, avian predation on chicks...

    Illinois Pheasants Forever Meeting 2017

Aslong as you have a good stand of grass, leaving them idle is not an issue. Weeds/trees/invasives will always be choked out by a well managed stand of grass. On the topic of multiple hens per rooster, you will have to contact them about that (a great topic that really was never covered or...

    Illinois Pheasants Forever Meeting 2017

Yes the 360K acres is the total state work, this also includes rest areas which are part of the upgrades and high visibility areas. Sadly the 100-200 acres is what the state as a total will be working on from year to year, but with more help from chapters and more revenue from other funds, that...

    Illinois Pheasants Forever Meeting 2017

With the results from the study, the state has created the Habitat teams which are basically boots on the ground to complete these 'renovations' at PHA's. One of the largest things they are doing is replacing all of the brome grass with native grasses and forbes. Sibley and Saybrook areas...

    Who's going out this weekend?

State meeting this weekend shed a lot of light on this. State DNR is going through major overhaul of PHA's based on the research shown by a U of I grad student. I've seen the presentation many times and it shows that PHA's success rate with harvest is growing at an exponential rate...

    Illinois Farmland and Prairie

I volunteer and work with the Illinois River Valley PF chapter. We cover both Peoria and Tazewell counties. That was partly why I was upset to see it leave Peoria, though I grew up not far from Springfield so it gives me a reason to see my parents. I know what you mean with the little ones...

    Illinois Farmland and Prairie

Yes I do believe it is aimed more at committee members (which I am for my chapter), but our chapter also allows chapter members (not just committee members) to attend. I'd rather see 1000 people there that can make a difference than 200 that are just a chosen few. I would definitely talk to your...

    Bird sightings

Every field I have hunted so far has had great numbers. We have seen our fair share of CRP coming out but also some going back in. Still having issues with ditch mowing so hopefully that can stop. Haven't seen hardly any coyotes. I think with the AR15 becoming more main stream and no other use...

    Wild IL pheasant hunting videos

I saw this video just the other day as well, wonder where they are hunting? State ground? Almost looks like it could be Saybrook PHA

    Who's going out this weekend?

Me and a buddy braved the rain today in central Illinois to hunt a private 160ac crp field. I knew it would be a good day when we pulled up and 10 roosters were standing there looking at us. Scratched our 4 in about an hour and had to let the other 50 go. Just goes to show that great habitat =...

    Who's going out this weekend?

Slow morning, only got to hunt about 3ish hours do to the dog being really out of shape. Never got into any pheasants but jumped 3-4 coveys with 5-6 birds each. Only scratched one though.

    Who's going out this weekend?

Plan on hitting one of the very very few walk in areas here in central Illinois. Numbers have been good where the good habitat is but have been seeing a lot of recreational mowing the last few days with the warm weather and dry harvest so who knows where the birds will be. Hopefully new...

    Bird sightings

I've already been seeing some reports from guys here in central IL that have seen nests that have hatchered. All good sized nests as well and the weather for the next few weeks is looking sunny and dry. Looking like this fall is shaping up to be a good one.
