I've never seen a dog that was a bad retriever of any breed. I've seen them in various stages of training though, and some bad habits such as playing keep away or "tenderizing" the bird.

I got my GWP from www.montanagundogs.com up in Kalispell, MT. That's ~9 hours from Williston so a really long day! I was up there several times looking at puppies and the parents before deciding. Watched the parents work a field and point a bird.

That's something we are really careful of in groups (party hunting). Most people's dogs only retrieve to them, they don't know or care who actually shot the bird. We're not trying to party hunt, but it kind of works that way on a temporary basis until birds get to the proper owners. I try to...
