    How did everyone do?

I cover the dog?s testies in Vaseline, keeps them from getting frost bite. Hunted the SW part of the state Nov. 10~14, cold as all get out, even with a neoprene vest my poor Vizslas were shivering nonstop. But the snow made birds bunch up and hold well. Shot a couple of sharpies and the...

I am glad I decided to come, did well today, the snow did make the birds stupid. I could have picked up about 5 roosters by hand they were holding soo tight. See the tail feather sticking out of the snow. Barna

    Dillon Wildlife Area

I went round and round for years with the DNR about management of the wild life areas. Here is my rough summary. The State has a designation for wild life areas, recreational use and wild. The recreational designate (Delaware, Killdeer, Dillon,?etc) is where the birds are released, thus no...

    Watertown, SD Report

I only hunt pblic land, north and west of Arlington, We hit a few pockets of good bird numbers but for the most part it's pretty slim. Not seeing a lot of young birds, about half the birds we take are cary over birds. We are seeing a good number of hens, about 3 to1 to roosters.

Be careful with the neoprene, it will overheat the dog. Go with a canvas type skid plate, like these. This the skid plate by C&C outfiters, It's adjustable and lets the underside vent. Barna

Retired Air Force, never, ever, ever been to South Dakota

If you hunted pheasants in KS, SD is not that big of a changeup. I think that SD has more potholes and that provides a lot of cattails where pheasants like to seek refuge, no hunting until 10:00 AM, but the rest is the same. Pick the pheasant density in combination with public land...

    Missing WIHA parcels...

What do you guys think about the state using part of the lease funds to purchase the land instead of leasing? The land purchased would remain open to hunting for the foreseeable future. The reason I ask is because in SD I hunt mostly small parcels of state land, similar to KS walk in areas...

    midwest vizsla owners

Rebel Rouser is Rozanek's line, I am in OH, know a few breeders, but you would be better off in NE, KS, plus the price is about $200 more the farther east you go. The guys V-John mentioned are reputable, and have good dogs. John is very modest, his dogs are top notch, and hold their own in AF...

    Need helpful advice

West river was my intention to say, the west side of the state. The pheasant map makes a clear distinction. I would also factor in the road side counts, http://gfp.sd.gov/hunting/small-game/pheasant-outlook.aspx

    1. Check out the pheasant distribution and hunter distribution map. http://gfp.sd.gov/hunting/small-game/pheasants.aspx 2. Look at the public land available http://gfp.sd.gov/ePubs/wildlife/2011-public-hunting-atlas/index.html 3. The state camp grounds http://gfp.sd.gov/state-parks/ Based...
