Fox 12 Gauge BST SxS - Worth buying?

Good input, I’ll pass on this Fox B ST, and find a much better gun. Bob M, the site you recommend is excellent. Thanks

Fox 12 Gauge BST SxS - Worth buying?

Do you think it would be difficult to get parts or, worst case, find a gunsmith to work on an old gun like this Savage/Fox BST? If I use it for a while anything can happen. I see a problem already, the top lever of this gun points pretty far to the left. My first thought was it might need a...

Fox 12 Gauge BST SxS - Worth buying?

I've been looking for an inexpensive 12 or 16 G Side x Side. Today I saw a Fox BST 12 Gauge in good condition. Chokes were Mod & Full which was a little dissapointing but I'm still thinking about giving it a try. I found no serial numbers, is that unusual? Price was $500. Any thoughts...

Should my next gun be backbored?

Yes, reading about features and benefits is one thing but where is the supporting data. And nobody here admitted to realizing a benefit, I know. Most of us understand that marketing departments thrive on emotions that embrace the theoretical differences to protect against regret, this is a big...

Should my next gun be backbored?

Gee, it's tough getting' back to work after a couple weeks off. I need to retire!! My brief summary of what I’ve learned, with your help, is that backboring or overboring the entire length of the barrel might be beneficial. Benefits could be improved velocities plus better patterns. Also...

Should my next gun be backbored?

It seems wad performance is key to a consistent benefit from backboring, insignificant as that benefit might be. Actually, like OldDublin mentioned, I read about how backboring improves a 20 gauge pattern and effectiveness with heavier loads and larger shot. This peaked my interest in...

Should my next gun be backbored?

Browning talks about backboring as a benefit incorporated into their current shotguns. I didn't notice mention of backboring on the Beretta site and havn't looked to see which other makers use this "feature". Are all non-backbored barrels exactly the same size within, lets say a couple...

Side by Side or Over Under?

This Model 24 is a relatively late 1942 gun that definitely shows signs of use but not neglect. Not bad for a 69 year old gun. The 28" barrels are mod and full so I can use it for trap and that will at least give me an opinion about the SxSs. First impression..... I like it!

Side by Side or Over Under?

Thanks for all your input, I've learned a lot and the bottom line is that I seem to need both O/U and S x S. I'll be shopping for the O/U first but in the meantime I picked-up something to play with. Some of you will laugh but I look forward to introducing myself to the side by side with an...

    New pheasant shotgun

I've also used the Benelli Monte' in 20 Gauge, it is a nice gun to carry and there have been no malfunctions, I've never used it below about 20 degrees. The Benelli 12 Gauge inertia shotguns require a minimum load, they say 3 drams & 1 1/8 oz shot. This might be somewhat limiting.

Whoops, I see my mistake, can't believe I overlooked your post but I obviously did. I am sorry for the bad etiquette Soonerhead, I apopogize.

Side by Side or Over Under?

Uncle Buck - It's good to hear the side by sides are not so scarce as I thought. I'll try to get a feel for them ASAP. Hopefully they won't cost too much more next year. There aren't a lot of well stocked gun shops here in California, I've been told the gun laws have caused many to fold or...

Side by Side or Over Under?

Elaborating on my reasons for deciding the O/U should be 12 g, not 20, understand that this would be my only O/U and will be used for trap/skeet plus upland. I prefer the 12, if for no other reason, for the higher pellet count. This wouldn't be my only upland gun, I like to use my light weight...

Side by Side or Over Under?

Well, there's no doubt that a good SxS is very viable has some outstanding qualities but it seems there are some issues preventing guys like me, inexperienced with the SxS, from shooting it well. That and since I like trap and skeet it seems practical to get the Over/Under first. The O/U will...
