Just wanted to dust this off in case others are interested in making a trip out this fall. I am hoping to sneak out the weekend right before or after Thanksgiving.
Is anyone interested in pheasant hunting in SD in mid or late November?* I used to do more of it but kinda got busy*with really young kids for a few years there and lost the dog around the same time. I basically gave it up for a while. I would like to start making a trip or two back out to SD...
Pictures
I think I might have broke the link because I moved the pics to an album. Grrrrr...sure would be a lot easier if I could just upload the picture. Anyway please take a look at the seed head pictures and let me know if you think it is ready to pick...
Seed
I was going to try to upload a couple photo's but I always get the upload failed message. My .jpeg is 1.38mb which appears to be below the limit. Any idea how a guy can upload a photo on here
Seed
Yeah, I was not real sure when to pick them. It seems like there is a mix of heads that are still green and kind of in a husk of sorts all the way to very brown dry looking heads. Many of the purple/brown heads that are fanned out seem to have a seperate dark brown piece hanging from...
Bluestem
I am just looking to pick some by hand and try to get a couple acres started. I have about a 5 gallon buckets worth of heads. I am just wondering how to keep them good ever the winter. Also I was not sure if I should try to mash them up and get the seed out of the casing or just...
Anybody have experience harvesting warm native grass seed? I have access to some from a neighbor but am not sure if I need to dry it or how to store it until next spring. Also should I try to mash the seed heads so that some of the seed makes it out of the pod or should I just plant it in the...
Thanks MorrisMike. The land is north of Alexandria, MN a few miles. It seems like the pheasants really like the stuff but we already have a lot in the lower areas and it it taking over fields now.
HI there, can anyone tell me what this bush is or how to get rid of it. It keeps popping up in the middle of our CRP fields. I have tried to hit it hard with roundup and it just can't kill it.
Do any of you guys know what type of chemical I can spray on some Sorghum I am planting for pheasants. I want to spray post emergence. I am not sure the variety, the seeds are about the size of 4 shot and are red.
So roundup will not kill dormant stuff? In what little reading I have done I thought they recommend some cool season nesting type grasses and some warm season stuff for later in the year. Is that not the case?
Just thought I would post this...I have a few acres of land in East central North Dakota. Like so much of North Dakotas CRP my 15 year CRP contracts have been expiring in 2011 and 2012. I just talked to our FSA lady and she told me the "good news" that my stuff could be reenrolled for another...
