    Lower Brule

Thanks reddog for the update. I had seen the report from Joel at Lower Brule wildlife so I knew there were problems. We were slated to come out October 28 but have decided to stay home. It makes you wonder if this is the beginning of the end. I believe things were down 45% last year at the...

So, hunterofbirds, I’m assuming you hunted this year. How were the bird numbers other than the jerk hunters?

    Preserve recommendation

I have been going out west for 30 straight years hunting pheasants and because of very poor reports for South Dakota, will be staying home this year. My buddies and I still would like to get out and work the dogs and wonder if anyone has a recommendation for a pheasant preserve. Thank you, John

    Benelli 828U safety tension

I have a Benelli 828U. I absolutely love the gun but the tension on the safety is such that I oftentimes am slow getting on a bird because of not getting the safety off easily. Outside of taking this to a gunsmith, is there some way I can adjust the tension on the safety? Any input would be...

    Non-Toxic shot question

non-toxic Michigan That is correct in that you don't have to use non-toxic shot in Michigan for upland game. Just make sure when hunting woodcock that your gun is either an over/under or is plugged. Good luck!

I have been just now going through the posts that I generated regarding steel vs. lead in a 20 o/u. I appreciate all the info you presented. I really enjoy shooting my Weatherby Orion 20 that I have had for over 20 years. I believe I can shoot steel through it and it can handle 3" shells...

    Michigan to Mitchell SD

LaCrosse hotels Good evening! Our group had been going out to South Dakota for about 11 years now. We leave from Gaylord and go to through the UP. We have stopped in Lacrosse a few times on the way back. We have stayed at the Econo Lodge, exit #3. Great restaurant next door called...

    non-toxic beginner

We just found out that Lower Brule will go non-toxic next year and having never used it in my 20 O/U I am looking for input as far as recommendations for shot manufacturer, shot size, and steel, bismuth etc.?

    choice of chokes in O/U

I want to thank all of you for the input. We made our trip to SD the first week of November and I used IC/MOD and shot the best I have in years....I also shot a lot of clay birds this year also. Just like golf, a little practice I think goes a long ways, especially as I get older:)

    Michigan to South Dakota

Thanks to all that posted a reply. I think we will stick with our usual route through Green Bay, Oshkosh, and over to Lacrosse on 21 I believe. We will be hitting the road Friday and I will give a report next week. Looks like we will be in some warm and dry conditions that will make things...

I live just south of the Mackinac Bridge so going through UP of Michigan is the best route.

    Michigan to South Dakota

A question for all those northern Michigan hunters that travel to South Dakota. We hunt in the south central area of SD and when we travel out we go through the UP of Michigan, then down to Lacrosse and take 90 out. Is it quicker to go through the twin cities? We have been doing this for 7...
