    Shoo Hawks! don't bother me.

Saw a hawk take an adult hen pheasant in South Dakota a few years back. Landed on her in a ditch and the dog pointed them both. It dropped her as it tried to fly away.

    Harvest

I was through that area last Friday on Hwy 36 headed to Kansas to Prairie Chicken hunt. Looked like a fair amount of corn coming out. Nothing else at this point that I could tell. They will get a lot done in October I would imagine, weather permitting.

    chasing chickens...

I also made my first ever trip for Chickens this past weekend. First off, I want to thank Rascal for all of his help and insight as my trip progressed. I just wish I could have ended my trip as well as you. I hunted hard on a beautiful piece of Walk in ground. I did get them pointed twice...

The end of the season for me

Cal, It's good to hear you finished the season ( or are about too) on a high note. My pheasant season is essentially over, but we still have about 3 and a half weeks of quail season yet. I'll do my best to get out as work and family allows. One thing for sure. I greatly enjoyed my trip to...

    Quail hunters roll call

I'm in on this one. I got hooked at age 7 carrying my BB gun around trying to keep up with my Dad and his English pointers in Central Missouri. Back then we had quail everywhere. Now, we have very few. That hasn't stopped me though! I can't get out enough. There's just something about the...

    Report here!!

Made my first trip of the year this past weekend. I'll have to admit, it was tough going. It was just me and a close friend of mine. We took 4 dogs, and lots of water! We probably should have taken a few more with the temperature as warm as it was. We were on the ground for about 5 hours on...

    Montana rookie

Hello all. I will be heading to Central Montana for the first time in the middle of October for some bird hunting. I ABSOLUTELY am not asking for anyone's prime info. Doing all the leg work is half of the fun for me. (The other half is watching great dog work.) But I am asking for any help...

Anyone seeing any quail in Mo

My brother in law was mowing hay on his place about 10 days ago in central Mo. He bumped 2 huge coveys of all young birds he said. He backed out of those spots and left the lespedeeza standing for them. Says it's the 2 largest coveys he as ever seen on his place. Good news.

Thanks. I was unaware that there was a vaccine for that. I'll check into it with my vet.

    Rattlesnake Vaccine -Bad Reaction

This may be stupid question but here it is anyway.. When you say rattlesnake vaccine you mean something administered before being bitten?

    This weather!

Central Missouri. Don't get me wrong, we have snakes. But in all my years of bird hunting I have never had to concern myself with the prospect of being bitten by a poisionous snake. Don't know a sole who ever has in my part of the world. I just don't like snakes. By the way.... No birds...

    This weather!

Not being from a place where snakes are ever an issue, I'm curious.... Just how far west in Kansas would a bird hunter need to be before he started concerning himself with snakes?? I don't care much for snakes.

    NW Still Good

Thanks Zeepo. I wondered if that was the case. We only had a few days over Thanksgiving. We didn't venture further west or north more than a few miles of the Hill City area. It's 60 degrees where I am today! What's the weather looking like out there?
