    30 Ducks Down Video

Smasher, I've seen slob hunting all over the country. Hunters fromthe south don't hold a monopoly on that. And yes, I agree that Delta Duckman's bragging on drinking beer while hunting, and posting videos of it, is about as low in the slob-hunting category as one gets -- so low that it makes me...

    9 day Pheasant Odyessy

I hit a big whitetail between Ludden and Ellendale two seasons ago just about this time of early November. I think it was November 5. Totaled my Tundra, right at first light in the morning. Looking back, I'm still not sure I could have done anything to avoid it, but if I had it to do over...

    ND Upland Hunting and Snares

Lazlo's back! I was wondering if you still lived and breathed! Haven't been to your neck of North Dakota in 2 or 3 years. Last year I totaled my Tundra near Ellendale, when a deer stepped out in the road just before light on a rainy morning. This year, I hunted southern Iowa instead. Less...

    Hows everyone been doing?

We hunted ten days ago in the southwest-southcentral area of the State, all on public land. Five of us killed 5 pheasants and about the same number of quail over two and a half days of hard walking. We had a couple of good dogs, but none in really great shape. However, we really didn't see that...

    More Birds Than Last Year

Uguide, it's great to see your strong numbers as the season goes on. I agree with your hypothesis that, for those who are managing ground for pheasants, the numbers are staying strong and can defy the harvest outlook numbers, especially during a season following a moderate winter and decent...

    I shot a hen!

"If states would post what the fine will be for accidently shooting a hen, and when it occurs you could mail your fine in with your 12 year old watching, and sleep better knowing that you have paid your fine and the state can use part of the money to purchase another hen and use the rest for...

    Don't know what to think.

"While mowing his hay, or chopping silage. . . ." I don't mean to be cynical, and I respect the man doing what he does. But I think we're beginning to see the CRP down-years really make a difference. When you look at charts of pheasant numbers, measured either by harvests or roadiside...

    Roadsite Count

I think declining CRP is finally, and observably, catching up with us. We've had good years, weather-wise, and individuals who observe their own well-tended properties are seeing good hatches and bird populations. But state-wide, or even region-wide within a state, the decline in habitat...

    Roadsite Count

Thanks for posting. In another state thread, some argue that the roadside survey and the pheasant harvest don't have much correlation. If you look at the graph at page 9 of the more detailed report for Iowa, it's really amazing how closely the roadside survey and the pheasant harvests track...

    Road counts

To Small Munsterlander Owner, yes, I've received the form and filled it out more than once over the years, for whatever that's worth. My point, though, was about the surveys -- they're generally not far off of our experiences. Sometimes they even are reflective of our experiences in one area...

    Road counts

David, I couldn't agree with you more. I've been coming to South Dakota for the better part of 10 years, and find that the trends shown by the survey correlate very closely to our experiences -- particularly as the compare to the year before, or the next year. My group doesn't make decisions...

Remington 870 won't pump after firing

I had a similar problem with a newer 870 Express, some years ago. I polished the breech, which was very rough and seemed to be "grabbing" the shells when they expanded (even a little bit) after firing. If I remember correctly, all I used was a brass brush mounted to a power drill, and a lot of...

    Side by side shotgun

The above advice is right. But if you want to speed up the process, get some toothpaste and lube the hingepin with it, then sit in front of the TV and open and close it a few hundred times. That will slick it up a little faster than just use.

New Browning A5 in 16 ga.

As to ill effects of steel in the older, softer barrels -- this interests me, also. When I've got to shoot non-tox from an older Superposed or Auto 5, I try to always shoot Tungsten-matrix, but it's gotten so expensive as to be almost prohibitive, at the same time the performance of steel shot...
