    Mountain quail

Mt Quali I seen a bunch of mt quail and grouse during the B zone archery opener. Was lining up a shot on a grouse with my bow when it spooked and took another 5-6 birds with it. Pretty cool to see. Also seen 2 decent groups of band tail pigeons.

    Calif. study regarding pheasant population

Hens We have planted hens in the past with very limited success and only anecdotal accounts of them producing offspring. They just don't have the smarts of a wild bird. I wonder if transplanting birds from another state would help, stronger genetics? -jb

    Calif. study regarding pheasant population

Interesting read for sure but nothing really ground breaking. Our club has been trying to work with local farmers to increase nesting habitat and reduce spraying although not much has been implemented as there is no real incentive for them to leave a the corners fallow etc. Predators are huge...

A dismal tour of North Valley pheasant country

That sounds like a good place, long drive for me but I would like to check it out sometime. We plant birds on Fridays and allow them over night to settle , move around before getting after them on Saturdays. The birds we got last year were very lean and spooky most often they ran until you...

A dismal tour of North Valley pheasant country

The last 2 years I have hunted opening day in shorts and a T shirt. Hoping for cooler weather this year and pray for rain as it keeps a lot of guys at home watching football. I am still young so slogging through the gumbo does not bother me much. Your correct on the cover, either feast or...

A dismal tour of North Valley pheasant country

North Valley Pheasant Country I believe I belong to this same co-op (KLSC) and have been for 4 years now. We have never advertised or stated anything about wild bird populations. There are wild birds out there but they are few and far between and the populations seem to be dwindling more and...

    Pheasant Hunting - England

England There are a lot of videos like this on youtube and I wasted a good couple hours watching them one evening. Seems more about the tradition and process than the actual hunt itself. I think it would be kind of cool to do one of these just to experience it. Lots of comradery which is one...

    Knights landing Sportsmans Club

Calisdad, my apologies no one has gotten back to you. We are re-vamping the website and some things are a bit glitchy. There is no designated RV parking right now but one of the farmers lets the group I hunt with park their campers on his property for the season. There is probably room for a...

Saw my first Calif. rooster in a year

RE: Saw my first Calif rooster We spotted a couple in an empty field just north of the Roseville Galleria a couple weeks ago. Have talked to several guys that said that area used to be prime pheasant hunting before all the development. Cool to see them in urban areas like that.

    Good news-Bad news

We were out in the Sutter Basin last weekend chasing squirrels and lots of the fields that are normally flooded for rice were fallow. There seemed to be quite a bit more cover around the ditches as well and most of those ditches still had a decent amount of water in them. Jumped several ducks...
