    Dog Question?

Supplement Kansas GSP is referring to Synovi G3, but it has since been recalled. I've used it on two of my dogs and it has been a God send. I'm now using JoinMax triple strength. You can get it in granules to sprinkle of food or chewables. If you only use it during the season then it runs...

    Tire Chains

I'll be heading to NC/NW KS in mid-December. One of my buddies brought up the idea of tire chains in case there is snow. We will be in a Chevy Silverado 2500 Diesel 4X4. The tires are not road tires, but they aren't monster truck tires either. Anybody care to share their thoughts about snow...

    Cimarron Grasslands

In mid-December I'll be making my annual trip to the great state of KS. We will be staying in Trego Co. and focusing on quail, pheasant, and waterfowl, which we did well enough last year to go back again. I have hopes of at least seeing a prairie chicken, but taking one would be even better...

Phes & Waterfowl opportunities around Hays

My first trip to KS was last season, and I'm going back again this year. We hunted WIHAs near Wakeeney and Hill City, with good success. We waterfowl hunted in Cedar Bluff and it was excellent. However, I hear that Cheynne Bottoms is better. I would say if you are not afraid to drive Hays is...

    The upcoming season

All of this quail talk and pheasant counts really has me excited. I am coming from the same place as whitewater, but I'm not able to make it until the week before Christmas. In prior posts, most of you locals have said that later is better. Is that for quail and phez? What about praire...

Lets see those late season KANSAS Hunting Photos.

NW, near Wakeeney. We did better south of Wakeeney than north. Everyone was having success near Hill City, EXCEPT US. On the drive in we started hunting NE of Salina, until we got to Wakeeney. We did well on pheasant and quail, but we were tired from driving all night.

Lets see those late season KANSAS Hunting Photos.

First KS hunt This was my first and only trip to Kansas. What a great state and a great hunt. I'm already booked for next year. We did self guided hunts on WIHA's. Never took a limit, but had the opportunity and lots of fun.

    KS advice

The crops were an issue for us last year in KS. I didn't see a bird after they hit the standing crops. To be honest, I didn't due as well in stubble as I did in CRP. But after all, it was my first pheasant hunt. I want to thank you all for your advice. It seems as though we will be moving...

    KS advice

Thanks for the advice. I will be in touch as it gets closer. We will be in a 4 wheel drive Chervolet Diesel. I would describe the tires as hybrid, not quite off road, but not touring tires.

I'll check, but we should be the only people on the private land. I also know of some near by private land that was very productive last year. It was the only place we saw a live person. He was very nice and allowed us to hunt to different parcels of his land. I plan to knock on his door...

    KS advice

Is it just the opening weekend that's bad or is the first week bad? We plan to arrive on Sunday, the second day of the season. We could just hunt the private land that the farmers own where we are staying. Then move to WIHA's the rest of the week. I certainly plan to follow the advice of...

    KS advice

New Dilema I just realized that Pheasant and Quail seasons open the week I was planning my trip. Last year I was worned to wait until a few weeks after the opener, b/c things tend to get crazy. Can anyone weigh in on this? I may be splitting hairs, but I want to get the best out of my trip...

    KS advice

Great forum. I live in SE Louisiana and upland bird hunting is scarce. Our staple bird is woodcock, but the weather and migration dictate our season. I own a two year old Brittany that has a great nose. She is well on her way, but we need to work out a few more steadyness kinks. Anyway...
