Bird hunting during Gun Deer Season

Is this a really bad idea or not a big deal? I'm looking at the calendar and trying to see what to do.

Is early to mid December too late?

I'm thinking of heading to SD for birds. I've got a young pup and an old girl. I'd really like to give Ally a SD trip before she retires. Due to work December is my first chance to get away. My question is; is this too late to plan on SD? I really don't want to get screwed by the weather. Thanks...

    Norton Hunting

We hunted that area just before Thanksgiving. We had some luck but it appeared that there was a tremendous amount of pressure. The duck hunters around Webster lake were rocking though. Tons of geese and ducks. May take my waders next year. Chris

Minnesota Hunter does not deserve his dog

I don't know who you are but you do. I hope you are on this board and read this and rethink your philosophy about your dogs. I was hunting north of Stockton, KS on Monday and we were driving down a road and my buddy Joe sees a GWP running thru a field. The dog then starts following us down...

    Hunting in the rain

yeah, the roads can get pretty bad. Obviously there are some places you can get to off better roads. On another note. Everyone likes a bluebird sunny day with snow on the ground what do the birds act like in snow vs. dry? Chris

    Hunting in the rain

I'm heading out next friday, after the opener, and rain may be in the forecast. Do you guys hunt in the rain and if so how does your approach differ? Do you look for more shelter cover or does rain really affect the way the birds act. I've heard that some guys say it is pointless to hunt in...

How did you find your best KS hunting spots?

My first trip to kansas was 3 years ago. I did what research I could on habitat, and looked at the KDWP website. 4 days later I had 2 quail and was heading back home. I gained untold knowledge and skill at finding birds on my own. Well, putting the dog in the right place. I have never...

    Youth Opener

Great pics guys. I really like the ones with the kids and the dogs in the same pic. Is there really anything better than dogs and kids? Thanks for sharing your memories. Chris

    Any one Home?

Where in NW OK are you? I'm planning on visiting with my cousin who lives somewhere outside of Beaver in December. He is saying that their Phez look to be the best they've been in a long time. Good luck this season. Chris

    Idaho boys coming again

I am a SEC fan big time. My Hogs did well this past week but let Bama slip away. Props to the the O-line for Bama, they are big and very physical. I really hope that Boise gets a chance to play a good SEC team in a bowl that the SEC team cares about. If Boise gives that SEC team a game then...

    Kansas 2010 UPLAND FORECAST

I talked with Matt, the wildlife biologist at Wilson Lake last week. He said that the birds around there look to be doing great. He said that the Quail seem to be booming and that the Pheasant are good as well. I asked him about all the rain and hail up north of him and he said he does not...
