    Duck or Pheasant

I choose whichever is better at that time. Last year, upland was almost non-existent in my area, so waterfowl it was until freeze up. Luckily, after that I got into some good grouse areas. Granted, I don't have the huge set ups like some duck hunters. A dozen deeks, a call, and a faithful...

    When is it time?

Bring him and give him the choice. Hunting buddy has a 15 y/o GSP, and she decides the days she's going to hunt. Some days we walk to the door and she races us, others, she hops back on the couch. Just take care to watch him so he's not over doing it in the field and making things worse.

    Mixed dogs

I know this is an old thread, but my wife has a GWP/Lab mix. She is a very good pointer and a reasonable retriever. Doesn't have the retrieving drive of my lab, but a phenomenal nose and steady point. Great combination in my book, and love watching both of them in the field.

How wet is it in the eastern part of ND?

I'm worried about the hatches with how wet the spring was. I don't think hay will be a problem, as many farmers are planting oats or sorgum/millet for hay on fields they could not get a grain crop in on.

    What brand of dog box?

I'm looking for something like that, but without the top storage so it will fit under my tonneau cover. Whats the preferred brand?

    Blaze Orange

Hat and something on the vest, if not a full oranage vest/jacket, at a minimum. Dogs get orange during deer season.

Bird numbers down, but had best year yet!

Being as I live in Eastern ND, and know people in the SE, it is convenient for me. I'm not one that needs to limit every time out. If the dogs can flush a few on the weekend, and we can knock one or two down, it's a good time. The farmer who's land we hunt on most is thinking about raising some...

Bird numbers down, but had best year yet!

Spent 4 days N of Pierre in Oct, we did ok, limited 1 day (group of 6). I had far better luck in SW ND, and limited easily on private land in a couple hours. SE ND, we're short, but the extremely wet spring is the major cause of that. LOTS of immature birds around.

    season is ending!

2 weekends left for me. Both planning on heading to SE to S Central ND. Birds aren't plentiful, but they are around.

Thinking about buying my first O/U

I love my CZ redhead delux 12 ga. With that, my hunting buddies shoot Beretta 686's. One in 20 ga and one in 12 ga. They all bring down the birds just fine.

    Lab quartering range

Jozie usually works that 15 yard range, which is perfect for me. She will range side to side, the distance depends on the cover and if she catches a scent or not.

    How many dogs?

When I hunt alone, it's just one dog. With the wife, it's 2 (mine and hers) With friends, it can be up to 8 guns and 10 dogs, or any combination.
