I went out to Jackson Co. for a few hours two weeks ago and didn't even see bird poop let alone a bird...starting to think that pheasant/quail in KS are becoming an endangered species! The last three years have been very very disappointing here in NE KS. Pheasants have been sparse for years...

It is a great gun indeed! I'm just trying to downsize and pay off some debt right now. I rarely shoot half of my guns these days and this one hasn't been shot in probably 6 years.

JJlab-that would be awesome, thanks for your help! That spot we wanted to hunt was SW of the dam I'm sure, it looked great...we will be better prepared next time. Hunting around here is almost non-existent anymore so I see many more trips W and NW in our future!

Thanks Toad, The areas that we wanted to hunt but were unsure of the legality of it had signs posted that said KDWP Pubic Hunting I think. However, these areas were fenced in and gated off so you couldn't drive into them. They did have a walk-in type gate so it looked like it was ok to hunt...

Where did you find these traps? What counties?

Plan on doing some trap shooting and might even join a weekly league this spring. Hope to do a little fishing as well.

My buddies and I always hunt Jefferson and Jackson counties and find good quail numbers on private and public land but this year has been the worst in the past five years... Not sure what has caused this but we are finding about half as many birds as last year on the same properties.

From my experience this season quail numbers appear to be way down in NE Kansas which is sad because usually we have great quail numbers...at least in the past 3-4 years it's been great. It is puzzling why the numbers are so low this year, even before the big ice storm 2-3 weeks ago. My crew...

Our results were just so-so last weekend in NE Kansas...fewer birds than last year for sure. On the bright side there were tons of quail! Of course we couldn't shoot them as it was pheasant only last weekend :mad: Hopefully we'll see the quail again this weekend:thumbsup: Quail numbers appear...

We typically hunt Jefferson and Jackson counties on the opener, mostly private land with a couple of great WIHA spots. I never rely on the KDWP predictions for our area since they are never very accurate. We had great years in 2004 and 2005 but last season was just ok, nothing to brag about...

CRP fields are by far the best spots for pheasant where I live in NE Kansas. Waterways with moderate to tall grass near corn and bean fields are also very good for pheasants.
