    My GSP has some issues....

The stimulation "power" comes from the receiver on the collar belt. It knows what level of stimulation based on the setting being sent to it. It gets the signal or it doesn't. A diminished signal won't lower the stimulation it will just be hit or miss if it's applying the level selected.

    My GSP has some issues....

Just an FYI that's not how an E collar works. The range will only have an affect on if the collar works not the strength of stimulation.

    best time for pointing dogs

I've had good luck almost anytime of the year. It comes down to having a steady dog, even if some birds bust before you get there if your dog is steady there WILL be birds left over. If your dog breaks at the first flush then it's going to be tough unless you can go after singles. The more time...

    Dec Sd Hunting

Hey Tom I watched a bit of Joe's video from early this year and he JUST caught your dog almost getting that hen. He also has Allie's big hen flush on film too. I'm getting on him to get them on youtube so you can see it.

    Gar an teed

I have never seen so many quail as I did this past weekend. Sad part is I had my pup with but the boys and my girlfriend were deer hunting the section and I couldn't hunt there. Next weekend me and the pup may have to see what we can find when they are done.

    Ames Area ?

No matter where I go I try and make a hunting trip out of it. Good thing my girlfriend hunts and is okay with a day trip most of the time. Going to Denver in a week going to try and find some ringnecks that way. When are you coming? I'm in Des Moines and if I'm in town we can try some spots...

    Collar Bells?

I run a beeper on my younger GSP that beeps while the dog is running. When she is on point it does a hawk screech that is supposed to hold the birds. The older boy gets a bell as I can trust him on birds. I don't mind the beeping and I've never seen it push birds anymore then a bell. I also...

SD Hunt; The good.........The bad..........And the ugggly

I had a great time and hope we can do it again. I know Joe also had a lot of fun and loved seeing all the birds. The dogs loved it and was something they both needed really bad, I had some issues with collars and knowing where the dogs were at times and that's never good. I defiantly couldn't...

    GSP Breeders

I bought my dog from Standing Stone Kennels in KS. I looked at Willow Creek, Sharp Shooters, and Top Gun. I was set on one of them they all have kennels full of VCs and MHs. I met Ethan when a friend picked up his lab that was being trained there. We went out and hunted with a few of his dogs...

    South East Iowa

I've seen birds on private ground in Clarke county, both quail and pheasants. I haven't done any driving at the right time to see birds in the morning to know how good it is.

Is a pheasant trip to Iowa worth the drive?

They are here, finding them has taken me years. Your baiscly hunting smaller groups. I find that starting on rivers and working your way to private ground is about the only way it works. Finding cover the birds can travel in and find mates is where they will be. It helps to scout out areas in...

Is a pheasant trip to Iowa worth the drive?

I hunt around Poweshiek and Page county. We did really good in Page and only saw 4 birds in Poweshiek. This year I'm heading to the NW part of the state to see what that has to offer as well. I'm not sure about Madison, I have seen birds in Clarke county but I don't think they are everywhere.
