    Car Sickness

I had one dog that got car sick as a puppy.. what seemed to help was taking him everywhere in the car. If I went to the grocery store 4 minutes away he came with. Slowly we’d go further and further and after a while he wasn’t affected by it at all.

    Trip 12/8 - 12/12

My time in SD for the season might have come to an end a couple days ago.. hoping for a miracle.. If all the snow melts off and we get a warm week January 1st-8th ish I'll make the trip again.. Otherwise it's a wrap on the year and we just sit at home and count the days until next season...

    What makes it “public” ??

So not beans… but what the heck was this stuff? Two big piles like this were on the same chunk.. tracks & birds all over them..?

    What makes it “public” ??

I guess technically it’s a CREP chunk.. same person has a couple other pieces of land enrolled as CREP.

    2025/2026 Pheasant Hunting Videos

This trip sure has been a night and day difference from my November trip.. can’t say I’m loving the snow. Day 1 was pretty bad, but day 2 made up for it. Some of my better shooting, but not much in terms of dog work. Setters and cattails don’t really go together.

    What makes it “public” ??

When I was here in November it wasn’t posted, now it is.. I figured they just hadn’t put signs up, but when I saw the piles of food I started to wonder. Unfortunately the owner of the land doesn’t appear to live close by otherwise I’d knock on the door and ask.

    What makes it “public” ??

I found a newly posted Walk-In area that looks too good to be true.. it’s listed on OnX & the SD Public Land Atlas. When I hunted it today my dog lost his mind, went on a flier, and jumped hundreds of birds.. likely the most I’ve ever seen. The spot had huge piles of what looked like beans as if...

    Snow

Interested to see how impassible the gravel roads will be when it warms up tomorrow.. they’re currently glare ice, hoping they can’t get worse, right? Today I had to go 20 mph max and roll to a stop rather than hit the brakes otherwise I’d go sideways. Tough tough travels.

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

Packing the snowshoes for my trip to SD over the next week was exciting.. easily some of my best hunts have been when there’s enough snow to hold a few birds and keep the other hunters away. Just need to make it there and back in one piece!

    How’s your shooting been?

:ROFLMAO: I should have clarified, some of those birds were killed on the second shot.. but a decent dog and not taking pokes at longer birds makes this possible.. Like everyone I've had my slumps. To start the year I think I went 1/5? Quite the turnaround.

    How’s your shooting been?

Some sort of shoulder injury.. unsure what exactly. Went to a good vet, doing PRP injections which should speed up healing. He’s 1,000,000 times better than the initial injury, but in late October a long pheasant hunt set him back a bit. Hoping he’s pretty good this trip. If not I’ll bench him...

    How’s your shooting been?

Appreciate it.. he’s doing good, haven’t hunted him at all. Next week in SD we’ll do 10 minutes the first day, 20 the second, and increase slightly from there if we can. He was fine to hunt a few SHORT ditches last trip. Hoping he can do a little more this time. Either way he’s living a happy...

    How’s your shooting been?

Beginning of the year I missed a few birds that left me wondering if I had blanks in the gun.. started to think about the shot more (mount the gun, head down, lead, swing through, etc.) and that made things worse. Then I started to not think at all.. throw the gun up and shoot the thing.. that...

    2025/2026 Pheasant Hunting Videos

Finally in South Dakota! Bird numbers are good/great. Day 1 was a bit of a struggle, the first spot we hunted was a dud, and birds are off and running.. hard to pin down with myself and 1 dog.. today we were done in 20 minutes. Almost too quick, but I got my wish of watching football (even if I...
