    Remington Model 31 Pump Shotgun

I think the going rate on a regular Model 31 not tricked out like this one is around $350-$400-if you can find anyone willing to part with one. My Dad's is in real good shape for being almost as old as me but it's a strait field gun with no modifications.

    Remington Model 31 Pump Shotgun

I inherited my Dad's 16 gauge model 31 fixed full choke when he died 3 years ago. My Mom bought it new for his BD in 1949. It has a great feel and the pump action is as smooth as silk. A great pheasant gun-and it's light too. There is a 16 gauge forum on the Web you can log on to and get and ask...

    Golden Retriever Owners!

Current Golden is Woody from Webshire Kennels in Larson, Wi. Prior was Gretchen from same place, had 3 black labs before the 2 Goldens No grief from others-no pictures [don't own a camera], no hunt trials for me. Great hunter, companion, disposition, affectionate. "It's hard to be humble when...

carrying more than 10 shells while hunting

You can buy shell holders that attach to your belt-most major stores show them in their catalogs. I have 1 from Cabella's, I think it holds 12 shells in the individual loops.

Peterson, Harvin and the Queens are Back!

What about Joe Kapp, he threw wounded ducks but was effective, tough as nails and a winner-I think he was after Tarkington. Does he show up at old timers games in Mn.

Peterson, Harvin and the Queens are Back!

I must say that was pretty cool and I remember watching that game now-the Vikes were classy when Bud Grant was there.

Road trip with two elderly gents

Nellie, if you read this, is there still a place in Plankinton called the Pheasant Inn or something similiar owned by a former LE Officer who is a big hunter? We used to go there pheasant hunting and ate there every night about 10 years ago, thx.

    Cuttin' the Dust

My hunting partner and I carry a flask of Bird Dog Blackberry Whiskey and usually have a sip or 2 of that plus a beer after the hunt is over. Back at the Hotel we have a brown one or 2 [that would be a brandy manhattan in our case] before we shower up and go eat somewhere.

    Beer At Lunch OK?

I agree with your vote, no alcohol until the guns are put away and the hunt is over. Why even risk it? What if something happened and a warden asked if anyone was drinking-then what?

    Growth on lower eyelid

It is dark, either black or dark brown, looks kind of like a mole. The discharge is basically clear colored, he was having that back this summer before I noticed the growth-I figured it was from being in the Lake water so much as I have a hunting shack on a Lake and the shoreline is loon silt...

    Growth on lower eyelid

I posted this on a waterfowl forum too but didn't get much of a response other than it's probably a benign eye tumor called melancytosis. It' a sty like growth I noticed about 2-3 weeks ago on my Golden. It doesn't seem to bother him and is not scratching it but there is a small amount of...

    Lake Poinsett/Fishing/boating

We stop at a Bar right on the Lake when we are out there pheasant hunting. It's called Lakeview and ask for Bob-he's in a wheelchair due to an auto accident many years ago but his family runs the place and we like it there. Lake Ponsett is beautiful, so is Lake Albert just a couple miles away. I...

    moved to brookings

We drive through and around Brookings to Arlington where we hunt and noticed on the Highway from Brookings to Volga almost directly across from the University football field are a couple Veterinary clinics-since you'll need a Vet anyway for your Dog, they may know of a dog club or such in the...

    Watertown, SD Report

2 of us and my Golden Retreiver hunted around Arlington which is south of Watertown about 40-50 miles I think and got 20 roosters in 5 days the week after Thanksgiving. We were on private land, did not see another hunter that was pheasant hunting during the week. 3 of the birds were young, the...
