    Pheasant etiquette question

Safety is more important than than any bird in my book. I don't hunt with people I don't know. Period.

    Pheasant etiquette question

I don't hunt with people I don't now. You never know how safe a person is with a firearm. You have just as much of a right to the there as another hunter does. The fact that you don't have a dog and he does is irrelevant. That being said, you did the right thing on having a civil...

    Is the site having issues?

I was having issues for a few days. I kept getting a message that the site was down for maintenance. I was able to log in using a different device.

    Golf

I was about a 3 handicap in HS. Played JV for a year and 3 on varsity. Mandatory practice or a match every day and a guy can get pretty good. Don’t have the time or finances to do that anymore. Maybe again when I retire. My Father is 73 and his handicap is a 3.

    Cattails

The cattail spot I usually hunt a few times each season isn’t even recognizable. No man or dog can go in it because it’s completely snowed in. Not to mention falling through is a risk not worth taking. The birds I have been finding since all the snow have been in 1 of 2 types of habitat: areas...

    2025 season reports

I haven’t even bothered going in cattails this season. It’s too unsafe. Plus they are completely snowed in. I should take a photo of the cattails and post it. It’s unrecognizable with the snow on top.

    2025 season reports

My old dog mustered enough energy for 2 spots today. Both with standing corn. Snow is about 13 inches deep but not as bad in the corn. I raised about 25 and 3 dumb ones got up within shotgun range. Stunning day out there too, about 20 degrees and sunny.

I am fairly shocked that any kind of insect can survive in this bitter cold weather.

In Minnesota yes, it is illegal to hunt big game with dogs. You can, under specific circumstances, use one to track a wounded deer. It has to be on a leash. You can only shoot a dog that is in the act of chasing deer between Jan 1 - July 1. The regs are very clear about that. its mostly to...

This is where I miss birds

I think you should try some ruffed grouse hunting Bob. Put a few of those things in the bag and roosters will be like shooting beach balls. The one item that helped me the most in terms of putting roosters in the bag is simple: hold your shotgun with 2 hands in the ready position as often as...

    2025 season reports

This happens quite a bit in Wisconsin because they can use hounds to hunt bears. It has a very small, but dedicated following there. Most of them do it in the very far northern sector of the state where there are large tracts of public forest, but not all of them do. A sizable percentage do...

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Tim Walz uses his personal Beretta A400 Xcel semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun for pheasant hunting. Key details about the shotgun: Model: Beretta A400 Xcel Sporting. Gauge: 12-gauge. Ammunition: He uses non-toxic bismuth three-inch shells with number five bird shot, which are more...

    Snow

I don't hunt with people unless I know they're safe with a firearm. Period. If someone I know is with, and then they exhibit unsafe handling or use of it with me, that's the last time they get invited. I've had to cut a couple loose over the years. But that was on them and they knew the...

    Gloves

I was just joking by the way. In case people can't tell I much prefer to shoot bare handed. I can tolerate temps down to about 40 bare handed.
