It doesn't matter what type of gun you have...they can all 'go off'. I've seen very experienced hunters and rookies both make errors or have guns malfunction. Keep in mind it could happen to anybody at anytime...and has. Congradulations to keeping the gun pointed in the right direction.

OK. Anyone check with a former Vice President who almost killed his lawyer? Course that may have been only one or two with lunch, and its also possible no alcohol was involved. Might want to ask the guy who ended up with the purple face what he thinks.

How long should a hunter look for a wounded bird? I've been with hunting parties who would look for 5 minutes or less, and others who would look for 30 minutes or longer, even stopping all dogs (as best they could, and other hunters) until that bird was found. I know this depends on dogs...

If you shoot the 1100 well, plus have the family tradition, it doesn't get much better.

A Remington 870, Browning Pump, or Winchester Model 12, can all be excellent choices, although not as 'trendy' as the new automatics and over/unders. The guns here are reliable, shoot as well as any other gun, and take tons of abuse and keep going. There is absolutely nothing about the guns...

Have seen birds hit at 50-60yds, and not go down. Your opinion?

I want to see other hunters that I'm hunting with, and I want them to see me. Always. Before I pull the trigger, I always want to know where everyone is located.

If you have a gun club near you, I would go there and ask for help. An experienced shooter (expert class) may be able to help you. Find someone who is respected for their opinion and who might be willing to actually work with you a few times to get you headed in the right direction. Good Luck.

Would agree with the others. But most important than brands, etc. is the ability of the shooter. A poor field shot will still shoot poorly with the best shells and the best shooters could probably use rock salt and still kill birds.
