There is a Comfort Inn in Hays, Ks, I think. Could be Salina. It's just down wind of a stock yard and smells like it. I saw a bunch of phez in the wheat fields around the motel. You could hunt there if you can stand the smell.
I shoot #5 Golden Pheasant loads. Start the season with Imp Cyl on the first barrel and Mod on the second. As the birds get jumpy I go to Mod on both barrels. Can't remember the last bird I didn't drop. I AM A MIGHTY HUNTER !!
Yep, get out there and enjoy it. Make some hunting buddies, get to know the land owners. OH!! get you a dog!!When you get to be my age, these will be the good old days
There is a guy in Colorado that has some really sweet Bitts. Why settle for a Golden when you can have a really cool, thousand mile an hour with his hair on fire, Britt. Can't remember his name, but Dakota Zeb knows him.
Get yourself and dog a motel room and go out and hunt the walk in areas. Kansas has very good "walk in" access. You can send me the fee for the great advice.
I had a Beagle with a fantastic nose and swear he would go right past hens once he realized rosters were the target. His legs were not long enough to get too far ahead and he could go down under big piles of tumbleweed and follow the pheasant tunnels under there. He was one of the best "upland"...
I know a guy that grew up in NE Colorado. He never used a dog; just drove down the road and looked at the base of telephone poles and ditch trees. Shoot em out the window of his truck.
I use poultry shears. Pull back the skin and cut out the breast and thighs. You can bake these parts with a strip of bacon attached or make phez Nebraska(Phez mc nuggets). I still say trout and phez are highly overrated as chow :D
