    How about Quail?

My cousin said he has seen a bunch of small coveys of quail, more than he has seen in years, but all 6 bird or so coveys. When I was up there for opening of dove, driving down the roads we kicked up 5 or 6 coveys in the couple of days of dove hunting. He said the ones he has seen have been in...

    Got my first birddog returned:(

Well I train bird dogs, and today was my first return. I trained this male dog for the last year and a half, I think he was trained right but the buyer says he ain't worth a penny. So here is the deal, he bought the dog and took it out to field with birds in it. He said the dog ran out and...

    Dove results and pheasant scout

What I meant when hunting for doves, I would hear the roosters cackling and the hens clucking all around me when sitting in the sunflower field, see a bird fly every once in a while, but yeah for the most part the birds in the Pratt area have left (most on a Carnival cruise), so no need to hunt...

    Dove results and pheasant scout

While hunting around Pratt for dove saw a few pheasants and heard a few while hunting, did see 2 pairs with chicks (almost full grown), and heard and saw a few roosters. When going into Pratt last Saturday evening I stopped by a convience store, and the lady asked me how the dove hunting was...

    Dove destinations

I am going to do a little dove hunting down here in the OKC area, then up just north of Pratt the 4th and 5th. I might be a little late for the opening in Kansas, but have several good fields to choose from. Everyone have a good opening season on doves (seems to be a bunch around down here)...

    How to make money hunting

:):)The nice thing about it, some hunt without dogs, some with, some hunt cut fields, others hunt CRP, some hunt sloughs, etc. It would be interesting to see all types of hunting, with just regular people. I am fairly new to hunting pheasant (5 years) and I hunt thick tall CRP grass. Last...

    How to make money hunting

I did a little videoing last year on some of my hunts and it was fun, and is fun to watch in the off season. It would be neat if several of us shot video this year and make a DVD of all the different hunters and the different terrain they hunt in. It would help in the learning process on how...

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Well returned from Kansas, it definetly is very dry, but not as bad as Oklahoma. My reports are about the same, saw a few roosters, and some quail. My cousin said he has not seen any chicks of either species, but says he has seen just as many adult pheasants as he does every year. He said the...

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Well I am heading up there today to do a little coyote hunting in the 100 temps. I am definetly keep a eye out for pheasants. My thoughts were that the irrigation on the corn would keep them watered up, and the crp corners would give them a good nesting/rearing area. Thanks for the...

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Here is a question, I know that the dry land would be tough on the birds, but what if it is irrigated land. I know the early spring there was a little moisture around, then when the corn was planted and irrigated it would bring much needed moisture and insects for young birds. Just wondering...

The anti christ of upland bird hunting

My peeves are: 1. Walk a couple of fields then 1/2 the group want's to be blockers. 2. On opening weekend (before I had dogs), a few would go to town to eat lunch and end up watching football and returning 4 or 5 hours later, hard walking fields with 2 or 3 guys, might of broke that last year...

    The Death ROLL

I have had several death rolls, skunks, rabbit, cat, the one I liked best was a death roll retrieve my dog did to my cousin and another guy hunting, she had a died skunk and brought it to my cousin first, then when he wouldn't take it, she took it to other guy, and he took it so she would quit...

    Fees

I am not a deer hunter either, but the last poster said exactly why my buddy always wants ot hunt deer there, do to their size of eating all that corn through the summer. We see monster deer there every year, I agree it is expensive, but for one to hang on the wall I guess you got to pay the price.

    Freestyling!

I also hunt the same stuff every time I go to Kansas, this last year was the first time I did some of the WIHA in Kansas, and as I stated before if I had not made resevations in Dodge City and really got to hunt the areas I stopped and hunted on the way out there, it would of taken me 4 days to...
