Before and After fescue conversion! Even an idiot can do it.

Looks like its time to get the chainsaw out and do some serious edge feathering!! You need to drop those tall trees and let the area grow up in shrubby type cover, then you'll see a huge difference.:cheers:

I've used Outrider and its da chit for Johnson grass. Worked very good for the most part but there were just a few areas that I had to hit again but thats not the norm.

Nice work Brad. Not sure about you but I know that it sure makes me feel good after I've done some habitat work to see the critters move in and take advantage of it. Now the real work begins, how to keep 'em!!!:cheers:

    Whistle counts/sightings

I jumped several about 3 or 4 weeks ago, most of them being small chicks about the size of a bluebird maybe. Jumped about 10 or so Friday evening, they looked full grown.

    impact of drought

Even with irrigation, and correct me if I'm wrong for those that have hands on experience with this, with the extreme temps they cant pump water fast enough or in enough quantity to keep ahead of the evaporation.

water drying up or stil available

Hey Chris, it looks like I'll be making the trip west with the rest of the firemen in the first part of Dec. Just kinda wondering what the status was on the areas we'll be hunting as far as emergency haying or grazing, ect.? I know these are private areas but I still have some concerns...

Poor Food Plot Germination, now what to do?

Not sure about your part of Minnessota but from what I've been seeing on the weather, a lot of rain has been going up north in MN and WI so you might be pleasantly suprised. I'd go with oats if it were me.

    Got Quail!!!!!

Well I will be getting rid of the fescue or thinning it at least. I'm either gonna kill it out and replant clover or I'll fence the area off and put in some cows and let them thin it for me.

    Got Quail!!!!!

Well it was a somewhat cooler day today so I decided to fill up the backpack sprayer with Remedy and start spot spraying my Sericia Lespedeza. Sprayed a total of 6 gallons on Sericia, thistles and a fair amount of mulit-flora rose. Seen a lot of rabbits, jumped a fawn and a brood of quail...

Just an FYI. On Thursday June 21st the MDC will be hosting a Bobwhite Quail and Native Pollinator Field Day from 1 to 7pm at the MU Bradford Research Center. There will be classroom sessions as well as walking and wagon tours dealing with a plethora of quail and habitat subjects. If you need...

    Now what

I'd forego the food plots and just let it grow. There are not very many instances where upland game run short on food. Cover on the other hand sometimes can be at a premium.

Help Identifying this plant growing in my Minnesota NWSG

DO NOT kill the raweed. Quails number one food source. Thistles yes, if they are getting out of hand. Ragweed is a good thing to have, and plenty of it.
