    Late Season

thanks to all, great advice. It's funny how something so simple could make such a difference....i.e. woulda never thought to throw a shovel in the truck, we just don't see that much snow around here. I think it's going to come down to a very last minute decision based on the weather....I...

    Late Season

My only saving grace to making it to SD this year may come between Christmas and New Year's. Other than good odds of it being colder than a well digger's butt in Siberia, what else would I be up against? Last November was my first trip and I was shocked at the landscape and how little cover...

Mobridge to Akaska Area Lodging Recommendations?

My brother and I stayed at Miller's last year. There is only one cabin, it's actually an older small house. 2 bedrooms (2 single beds each) and another bed in the living room...was pretty clean and had everything you needed though things like kitchen utensils, bed linens and stuff were pretty...

Please Help. First SD Trip This Fall

Hey Adam, I was in your shoes last year when my brother and I made our first trip to SD. Thanks to the advice from some good guys on this forum we weren't disappointed. It was my first time hunting wild birds in many years. We use to hunt central Ohio back when there were a few birds there, but...

    Any Pheasants in Mobridge area

ok....I'm confused, after reading posts from last year and a few from this year and even talking to the Mobridge GFP office the birds are "spotty" at best. So why is last year's harvest report and this year's brood survey say that Walworth county is one of the better counties of the state...

    WIA's

2 of us are heading up for the first time in a couple weeks hunting public land and had a couple questions...I know the wia's have signs at each location but what about the blue areas on the Wilma map (schools and public lands)? Around here some county owned land is leased out farmers....is it...

    farming question

After more thought about this I realize it really wouldn't help much in the long run anyhow. It really wouldn't benefit numbers because you aren't providing nesting or habitat year round, plus I can see how weeds would really affect no-till vs. plowing. It just irks the hell out me to see...

    farming question

I was reading on another state's forum about wheat stubble and how it holds birds and there were comments on if it has more weeds it holds more birds which is pretty obvious. It started me thinking of why nowadays you drive through farm country after harvest and the fields are shorter than my...

    Worth driving 22hrs.

Hey Neb, I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers....I agree and appreciate the honesty of those that said numbers will be way down, just wanted to give a little different perspective is all. I hate having to go out of state and I'm not looking forward to knocking on doors when things are less than...

    Worth driving 22hrs.

One point of view, I've grown up in sw Ohio and as a kid we would drive to central Ohio to hunt what few pheasants the state had at the time....which was a lot more than today, and that being 30 years ago. I've been reading this forum for the last year since my wife rescued a brittany from the...
