Garmin Alpha 100 - Dog On Point Question

And how about a dog figure on point that is dramatically different than the on the run. When my the Garmin says my dogs on point. I start heading that direction. I am watching to see if he has started moving again or is this a legitimate point. The dog figure is small and not much different...

    Headed south

+1. Also be prepared for some running birds. You'll get a nice point and by the time you get there they are 30-50 yards away and your dog will be resetting. I'm either getting worse at my wingshooting, or the low hanging fruit has been shot already. They also are smarter. Flushing behind...

    Dogs in the heat/cold

I have only used SUV's. I like my dog being out of the elements while traveling. I'm about to get my second dog. My plan is to hunt them together. Haven't figured out a solution if I want to hunt one at a time in one day. On my Monday hunt, it got up to 73 deg in mid January. I can't leave...

How do you find your pointing dog?

I use the Alpha. I mainly hunt quail in Oklahoma. My male Brittany can range out 200-300 yds sometimes. Sometimes he's still in view, other times he's gone over a hill. Always know where he is and when he goes on point. This has been a game changer for me. I enjoy the quiet hunt while...

    GPS track and train collar

Good choice. I had neither when I purchased it so I decided to go with the all in one. One collar. Will say it is not fast to switch from different e stim levels. With one dog, I have three separate buttons programmed on one screen. Use vib, tone and one e stem level. Go to different screen...

    GPS track and train collar

Alpha for two seasons now. I really like the quiet hunt always knowing where dog is. Goes on point in tall grass, I know instantly and can go straight to him. I too tend to look at it a lot. May be due to the newness and learning to utilize it. And had a young dog. This season i have...

Protecting your dog in the field... vests, booties, ect?

I'm thinking of trying a chest plate. He doesn't seem to be bothered yet. Hate to add more gear on him.

    New Pup Choice

Having a blast with my brittany. He's 20 months. Had an awesome first hunting season. Great with the kids. 42 pounds. Rarely hear a sound out of him. I only upland hunt, quail mostly, so he's perfect. Good luck.

Protecting your dog in the field... vests, booties, ect?

Brittman, where do you hunt? I hunt in western oklahoma and I deal with some rough terrain. Doesn't look too bad till your in the thick of it. I would love to let my brittany out of the truck and just go. May have to try it sometime and see how he does. Does Tuf-Foot work?

    Quail calls.

They were very vocal in November. Now I can hardly hear them.

    Quail calls.

Does anyone hunt bobwhites using a quail call? I often wonder if this would be helpful after a covey flushes. Are they easy to use? Useful or gimmicky.

Protecting your dog in the field... vests, booties, ect?

I have tried the 1000's. I emailed them and they said that would be best for sand burrs. They worked well. The ones on back had holes after one day but they are cheap. I am trying the inner tube thing next.

Hunter94. What is your process. What boots. Do you wrap paws. I put boots on before each hunt. I have tried multiple combinations. He gets about 30 miles twice a week. I usually have at least one paw issue. Maybe that's considered success. It's not horrible either. Just makes my wife think I...
