    Opening day

I like to go out and hit walk ins mid week after opening weekend. Last season, 4 of us got 14 birds in 2 days of bad shooting. This season, in the same fields we jumped 1 rooster and 3 hens in a hard day of hunting. Not even any dumping out the end of the field. We gave up and headed home after...

    New to the forum

Welcome dun! Have you hunted the public here much before? I have been at least a few trips a year for quite a while. Not a game farm but I've rarely gone and not had at least one opportunity. (That is my benchmark, as I'm a horrible shot. :) ) Are you a weekend guy or can you ever get out...

    Burlington Rooster Roundup?

I was in the same boat as you trying to figure it out and finally signed up 2 years ago. Life got crazy for me and I only made it out once. Like Ken said, some poor properties and some decent. I didn't get many but was hunting with my son in his first season so didn't hunt real hard. One of...

    Question

I've always assumed that often landowners enroll multiple properties. Some are good and the others just get thrown in because "why not". But I could be totally wrong. Makes the wia atlas look better I guess. :)

    How’d everyone do?

Made it to Baca county opening day and Yuma mid week. Both trips were worth the drive. Bird numbers seem pretty good, although they are definitely wise already. Gotta be smart with how you hunt them and be willing to put in the boot leather. If you can find friends blockers definitely help...

    Looking for a hunting partner

I will be down in the Walsh Baca county area opening day with 2 guys and a lab trying out the walk in areas. If anyone would like to team up to cover fields a bit more effectively would enjoy company. Just as long as you are safe and can be happy whether we get birds or just exercise! :) send me...

    Opening day reports?

Smdmz. Good job on the morals. 5 years of loss of hunting privilege is penalty for hunting while trespassing. No rooster is worth that. :)

    Opening day reports?

Tough start for me by Burlington. Just didn't seem to be that many birds around. Residual snow from last storm lasted half the day, and saw very few tracks even. Others I spoke to seemed similar results. Managed to scratch 1 out on 3 chances. Always good for exercise and good time with the...

    Anyone willing to guide us?

Where are you located? Assume you are looking for hunting partners with some experience vs an actual "guide ". I enjoy meeting new people, especially with youngsters. Just hunt public usually.

    Burlington Rooster Roundup

That is awesome about Kansas. Really enjoyed the youth waterfowl weekend here. Maybe in a year or two I'll have to make that trek with him and the dog. Thanks for the heads up!

    Burlington Rooster Roundup

Side note, Hunter94: Thank you for being willing to advocate for safety first. You did so in a considerate and positive manner... you could have been a jerk about it but you were not. Too often people are afraid to say or ask things like this when situations come up, and many accidents that...

    Burlington Rooster Roundup

He does have hunter safety card and has been hunting with me his while life... carrying a bb gun at first for practice and then mostly duck and dove hunting last year. I agree though with what you said and am careful with him, thus hoping to try to find a group where we can block rather than...

    Burlington Rooster Roundup

Decided to finally give this a shot this year. My son is 8 and will be hunting pheasant with me for the first time this year. He does well, but miles and miles of walking like I usually do can be tougher on him, so hoped we could team up with a big group the and block. See if it works out...

    Situation opinions...

Good thought on the wily old roosters. That is a good plan, because I'm a trophy pheasant hunter. I only shoot if they have half inch or greater spurs. Kidding of course. But the thought will help bring me hope at the end of those fields.

    Situation opinions...

So, we've all been there... walking a field, 120 yards from end, and birds start busting like crazy from the end of the field. (No blocker) Question is... do you find that some birds still will hold tight or stop before the end? Or do they pretty much all go together. Do you rush to the end...
