BTW unlike most game birds (phez, quail) sharptail grouse breast meat is dark like a duck..If you are wanting a bird to mount wait until at least mid October..the birds I killed in early September (SoDak opener) did not have full plumage yet including the "feathered legs"..If you need anymore...

I lived in SoDak for a couple of years and did alot of Sharptail hunting near Wall..I did/ do not like the taste of Sharptail grouse..Ironically there was an elderly lady whom I worked with who loved it!..She wound up getting all of my grouse that I bagged.
