Trip report We hit the Ogallala and Sidney, NE areas for a day and a half. The weather was crazy warm and very dry. We found small numbers of birds in every field we walked. The habitat was in better shape than I had anticipated.

Thanks We had our pre-op appt today, exam, lab draw etc. The vet said she should be fine after 4 weeks. I will certainly keep an eye on her, I do anyway for that matter. Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful advice. JT

Spaying I can't really get her in any earlier. I will have to adjust her early season activity to allow for the shorter than optimal recovery time. I prefer the later season anyway. This is exactly what I needed to know.

I am having my 4 y/o GSP spayed on 10/16. That is approx 4 weeks until the opener. Does anyone have advice on going easy the first couple of weeks or will she be able to go full steam at 4 weeks post-op. I know the vet will give standard instructions. I just wanted some thoughts from bird dog...

Late reply I am a German Shorthair guy, but, to be fair I will make myself available to hunt with every other breed of dog for the next several years to make a fair assessment.

Cattle I think you did the right thing by bringing it up. I am not sure why anybody would want to hunt with cattle present. I was surprised at the people who said they do it on this board.

report I called CDOW, they didn't seem that interested. Turns out it was PhilV with good intentions. I had no idea who it was, could have been the landowner for all I knew.

Good news That is great news in reference to bird numbers anyways.

2 Cents I saw two guys in a red F250 driving thru a WIA pivot corner today.

Brush The extra 30 mins drive is time well spent. I have hunted most of the WIA's south of Brush. You might move a bird or two but not great.
