Just my suggestions... If your dog does not really know what the whistle commands are please don't be out in the field just blowing the hell out of it and think he supposed to know what to do... I see this problem all the time and it is def a super big pet peev of mine.... Have hunted with a...

Another thing... As long as you have the obedience training down try not to worry about much other "training" rather just give him some field time... Even if it is just going to the local park and letting him run and "hunt" in the fields or other wooded areas.... Just let him run don't bother...

Well hello Andy.... Don't feel bad at all... I have been going through this same problem... But mine has had a happy ending... I also have a wiem, she is 3.5 now.... She is a great dog... Points like you have never seen before... Well at home she did any ways.... Backed my other male weim/lab...

My opinion is that he is just not a hunter.... Just because he has a good pedigree or was from a guide does not mean he is a hunter.... Who knows how his training went and how well he really liked it... I have seen dogs get hours and hours of training and given the chance they want nothing to do...

Sig, You don't have to be the type of guy that I am talking about..... Just because you have a pup does not mean that you will be yealling and screaming and blowing whistles all day... I assume since you said something about you trianing him that his obedience training is going good.... Happy...

You should have no problems being a single hunter... If you knock on the door and tell them it is just you and your dog you should get a yes quite often... The best part you will only need a single yes to have more than enough land for you two to walk
