Whats the point of the Clicker

The thing about the clicker, is that it's "consistent". Haven't we heard that word before in training dogs? That clicker is going to click the same way everytime whether time you push it easy or hard. Unless you realize what you're doing, the marker "good" is like settings on an ecollar - you...

    Lab quartering range

This is similar to how I run my pair of Labs. One's a pointing lab, and 10 yards would totally ruin him - besides, you need to let your pattern develop. My dogs work the line, but they know who their bonds with. I use tone on the collar & hand signals to turn them. I see soo many Labs that...

    trainer now or later?

Puppies are like kids, they soak up so much when they are young. While you should let puppy be puppy, teaching obedience can be a game at this age, but instills the conditioned response. If a 65-70 lb 9-10 month old pup already knows the basics, whether you send to a professional or not, your...

    Missing WIHA parcels...

Heck, I used to be able to stay within a 10 mile radius of Scott City (hometown) & easily enjoy a bunch of wiha; my county has dropped drastically.

Any good books on Training Pointing labs

I have a pointing lab, but bought him for the complete dog, not pointing ability. I think some people are capitalizing on the known pointing bloodlines & selling as"pointing".

Going from 1 dog to 2 dogs?

Agreed - somehow missed your post.

Going from 1 dog to 2 dogs?

I've heard that too, & in retrospect, I have dogs with 2 very different styles, both labs, but one pointing. It's hard to generalize dogs though, by using words like "never". I've seen both schools of thought or......maybe it's that my older dog doesn't have any bad habits :D

Going from 1 dog to 2 dogs?

This was my 1st yr to hunt with 2 dogs. Opening day I alternated them for 1/2 a day worried about what it would be like handling 2 dogs & shooting. By afternoon we were short dogs so I started running them together - been running together since. Sometimes they tandem retrieve but it's...
