    Bad timing

Jet, After about 8-10 days it will get easier. I got tired of taking Belle out at night on a leash so she could potty. Ken

    Bad timing

Jet, Good luck with rehab. My 10 year old had TPLO done in March this year. A lot of long nights. We had to come up with creative ways for her to take meds. She is doing well and we are now hiking 3-5 miles every other day. I doubt I’ll hunt her all day like I use to, but she’ll get to hunt...

    It Looks Grim

I don't post very often and I've been hunting KS since 1993. This is the first year I've talked to the farmers that let me hunt on their land. They all say one discouraging word---DRY. They haven't had rain in quite a while and the 100 degree temps in the summer sure didn't help. A lot of...

New 2020-2021 WIHA map is out

I don't know if landowners will pull signs. If they are still enrolled in the program, the signs will still be there. I've seen a few WIHA with cattle on them.

    Porcupine Question

I hunt western KS quite a bit. I've never seen a porky, but the dog has been skunked. We've run into big raccoons, a badger (growling in a bush), coyotes, and a bobcat. Luckily the dogs managed to avoid those pitfalls.

How are things shaping up for the hatch?

The milo looks pretty good! The birds look good! Hopefully, the rains keep things going. Ken

    Thinking at changing breeds

I have hunted with Gordon setters since 1986. This year I'm getting a red setter. Unless you like spending time getting cockle burrs and sand burrs out their hair, you may want to stay with a GSP. However, a lot of the field bred setters have shorter and thinner type coats to keep the burr...

    Pheasant hunting in Kansas

I hunted ND in the mid-2000s on private land. I've hunted KS since 1993 on private and public land. Even the best years in KS (prior to the drought) just don't compare to ND. However, KS is still great to get out there and chase a few birds just don't expect limits. Ken

    Pheasant hunting in Kansas

I hunted North Dakota twice. The pheasants were everywhere. Kansas doesn't have near the birds, but the WHIA program is great and you can always find a few birds. Ken

    KDWPT WIHA program

I browse this sight off and on. I normally do not post here. The WIHA program is the main reason I continue bird hunting. It is a great program and sends me to KS almost every weekend. As others have said, if you do some homework there birds to keep you and your dog(s) running around in...
