Only two of us going so we will have to find small areas that we can work effectively and work into the wind as much as possible. Will be hunting WIHA and public lands around reservoirs. Weather is supposed to be more like a day at the beach instead of hunting season.

Thanks for the info. Did not know if there was much CRP left in the state anymore. Figuring in the part of the state that we are going to, might have to rely on grassy draws in cut milo/corn fields.

On warm day like today, what kind of habitat did you find the most birds in? Heading out next Wednesday with weather forecast similar to today, so trying to figure out which type of habitat is my best bet. Thanks

Hunted SW of Hays for one day on last Thursday. Just myself with no dog. It was more of a scouting trip but enjoyed the nice day. Did not see any birds but the cover was really good and the milo was about half harvested. Did get to see a nice herd of 29 antelopes moving around in the area...

I appreciate the info. Had not been out on Opening Weekend for several years so I have been trying to understand the hunting pressure coming during some down years in numbers. Seems the optimistic forecast got more people out maybe.

Thanks for the info nwkansnative. I was north of Salina near the Nebraska border and also saw lots of hunters. On Saturday, saw 12-15 groups working a 5 square mile area. The ones I talked to had very little success. Cover was good but like you said it was very dry.

Can anyone speak to the hunting pressure around Hill City and/or SW Kansas?

North Central was very dry and windy Hunted about 5 hours. Only saw 3 roosters and one hen with no shots. Saw a nice covey of 15-18 quail. Wind was blowing 15-25 mph. Hunting by myself and enjoyed the day but no birds in the bag.

them Chiefs Very frustrating that we control both the offensive and defensive line of scrimmage in first half but get totally dominated in second half. Was not able to maintain intensity and/or focus in second half, I guess. Don't think any of our linemen were among the injured.

Might be worth some money the way I see people pay big bucks for old ammunition at auctions.
