    Intro - New user

My 15 year old son and I have been after our first pheasant for the last four years, lol. We have seen roosters but the other guys we've been invited to hunt with always seem to get the first shots. The two of us hunted again opening day this year with another buddy new to CO but only...

    Who is going?

Weird day for us. That fog and moisture on the ground was insane and had the three of us SOAKED from the armpits down. We walked some tall stuff hoping to find a rooster. We flushed four hens in the first 10 minutes...showed some GREAT restraint not shooting at the first flushing bird! My son...

The Birds are Back in Town

Old thread but I wanted to say I appreciated the write-up. It gets me excited for tomorrow's opener.

Camping out by south Yuma County?

Due to kid obligations tonight with his girl friend we will be heading out at 0'dark-thirty tomorrow. I'll scout some options to camp after we're done. Thank you all for the replies.

Camping out by south Yuma County?

Thank you for the reply. I checked into what's now "South Republican SWA" but two of the campgrounds are closed and nobody answered the phone when I called to check on the third. I'll keep

Camping out by south Yuma County?

Does anyone know of any camping spots out by Joes, CO? Thinking of heading out Friday afternoon and getting a few extra hours sleep on Saturday morning before the opener.

WIA opening weekend versus the rest of the season?

I am new to hunting (three years) and have only pheasant hunted twice, once in 2013 and again this year, both times I went out opening day. I've been told by some co-workers that after opening weekend the birds move off to private property and the WIA fields are pretty scarce of birds. Is this...

Where oh where has all the WIA gone?

I was out on opening day and actually found a group of folks ready to do a foot race to a corner property. We were in no hurry and figured we could find other areas...every field had hunters in it EXCEPT the novice fields. There was NOBODY in there at 8:00 opening day and we started our day in...

    Colorado- Joe's Area?

He just had him sign it. I should have known better but since I bought it and called in for his HIP it was still in my license holder, unsigned.

    Novice hunter signs?

We didn't see that at all. There was only one field we had to "share" with another small group and honestly, it was so big we had no issues what so ever sharing the field. Get away from the main roads and you could hunt some good fields for two hours and never see another hunter.

    Novice hunter signs?

We stuck around Joes and bad a blast. I put up a report in another thread. My son didn't get to shoot at anything but he had a good time anyway. I look forward to bringing him back in a couple weeks when it's just he and I.

    Colorado- Joe's Area?

Lot's of short grass cover. The few taller fields held birds. Saw 11, 5 roosters 6 hens. It's tough hunting w/ out a dog. I'd imagine it won't take many weekends before the birds hole up on private property with no pressure. Oh yeah, doing 80 in a 65 will result in a hefty fine as found out by a...

    Colorado- Joe's Area?

I'm taking my son out to that area this weekend and will meet up with some guys from work in the afternoon. I've been looking over the maps, google earth and have a plan A, B, C and D...just in case there are a lot of people there already. I figure it can't be any more crowded than fly...

    Novice hunter signs?

No clue. I know when my son and I took the hunter's safety classes in March 2012 the instructor didn't mention anything about their covert operations to us. Either way, we're excited to get out this weekend and hopefully see a bird or two. Reality is we will probably do a lot of...
