looking for advice: training a lab pointer

That is a pretty pup and welcome to the awesome world of Pointing Labs! Mine is 5 1/2 and loves to hunt, sleep, eat, and go on the boat! If you are on Facebook, I would suggest you start to following the American Pointing Labrador Association, as well as check their webpage. There is a lot to...

    Golden hour

My pheasant hunting obsession started back in 2001 with a good friend that has family land, a lot of it, in NW Kansas. I have gone just about every year to the farm. That family has become our extended "Kansas Family." It is all pure wild pheasant, quail, and prairie chickens. The past three...

Brent, my apologies for leaving out Ace in my reply to GH about if I lived closer. To see the four dogs working a big WPA would be awesome!!!

I wish I lived about 5 hours closer because it would be the Sage, Nila, and Whisky show!

Lucas, I agree with your perspective. On the flip side, they taste the same coming off the grill and Whisky points/retrieves them the exact same way! One picture was a planted bird and one was wild... Whisky didn't care. LOL

    Fiberoptic sight

I shoot with both eyes open and try hard not to actually 'look' at the front bead.

Looking for a new 20 or 16 gauge side by side shotgun...your opinions are welcomed!

I have been shooting one for a lot of years. They are fun and good medicine for birds.

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

We are watching the weather in Edina, as that is where my oldest and his family lives, and it is fricking cold! I can't imagine trying to hunt in that!!!

    Steady to flush and shot?

In the hunt test world, mainly for Labradors, the upper levels require steady to flush/shot, etc. for handling purposes. I have not trained my PL to be steady. There are times in which I wish he was...

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

I am really liking my new CZ Teal in 28ga. It is super nice to carry. I seem to shoot it well. The only load I have used so far for pheasants is Federal 1oz of #5 shot in 2 3/4". I have a couple boxes of Golden Pheasant to use as well. I am anxious to shoot ducks with it. I have a few boxes of...

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

I switched to Crispi after wearing Filson Uplander boots for years. I thought they were great until I wore the Crispi boots! The Filson are heavy and don't have near the comfort or support. I imagine the Filson are similar to the Wingshooter boots.

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

Drew, I have said it multiple times before on this forum that I absolutely LOVE my Crispi Idaho GTX II boots and would love to get another pair from Crispi, but their new Upland boots.

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

Cheesy, you are spot-on about the Garmin Explorer app. I love the 550+ combo, just hate the app interface. I am on season 5 with the collar combo and replaced the batteries in both the collar and transmitter this spring. It was super easy and extended the life of my units. I would like to get...
