    Pheasant Fest 2018

We went for the first time this year, seemed to be just a place for overpriced outfitters and lodges. I did score some deals at the Running's Store booth on boots and a new jacket and that was the highlight of the whole day.

Talked with our rancher west of Mobridge.

My wife and I hunt a very large piece of private property about an hour due west of Mobridge, hearing all this doom and gloom I called the rancher that we are fortunate to have befriended and asked him what the outlook is. His words were as follows, yes we were in a drought early but they have...

    Game and Fish stocking pheasants

When it comes to released birds what do you think the percentage would be if any that make it through winter to breed? I have heard they will not survive but have never read any factual info on it. I do think some must survive because if they didn’t there wouldn’t be pheasant hunting since they...

    Need Advice

If you go definately bring snowshoes, i guarantee you will be wishing you had them. It isn;t so much the snow amount that is happening. It is the wind that is going to fill up any of the cat tail areas with it. And when i say fill it up, there were areas i was not able to go through. Waist deep...

    Need Advice

We were there up till Wed. this week and it was very difficult at best, I do not want to sound like a downer but with this pile of snow that is going through and the winds that are supposed to follow I wouldn't even attempt going. If you have a place in Kansas/Nebraska I would honestly give that...

    Mobridge area weekend

My wife and I rolled into to town on the 10th and got settled into our cabin, the snow was still coming down and blowing. We got all our gear ready for Sunday and off we went, we have a spot we call ?The Honey Hole? and we soon found this to be renamed ?The Death March?. What should have taken...

    Upcoming cold weather

I am a little confused, I have been following on here how people have been spouting about the great numbers of birds they have on their private land or the land people pay them to hunt on. I have also read on here about people going out on walk in land and having their limits in just a short...

    School Land??

Can somebody please explain to me what and or how the school land works that is on the maps from the SDGFP website, while we were out there a few weeks ago we ran across several good looking pieces of this property but some if it appeared to be land locked by private ranch property with no access.

    hand held GPS

Everything I have hunted the roadside is marked excellent but the inside of it has zero to tell you how far in you can go, this is all the WIA that I have ever been on. And I have a good shotgun and new boots.

Cost to maintain a food/winter cover plot??

Nothing, there are some smaller "lakes" on the property the ground that leads up to it is left void. Before you get to the waters edge it is heavy cat tails and I was thinking this void area would be an excellent place to plant some cover/food plot.

Cost to maintain a food/winter cover plot??

We are fortunate enough to be able to hunt a private ranch in S.D., I know the person that owns this has at least 3-4 mint spots that would be perfect for planting 15+ acre or so food/wintering blocks. I am kicking around the thought of asking him if I were to help with the cost if he would be...

    hand held GPS

With the ability to download the public land maps to a gps how many of you use a hand held to make sure you are not straying out of bounds? A couple of the pieces that we hunted this weekend were marked well at the roadside but we were not certain how far in we could go and we are thinking about...

My wife and I decided to make our first trip over Thanksgiving, we arrived Wed. evening and got settled into our cabin we rented. The plan was to hunt public land Thur. thinking not many people would be out then go to our friends ranch Fri/Sat. We awake Thurs. morning and were blessed with...
