    Need a guide

Hey Mike, is that Sheridan, Mt or Sheridan, Wy? If Wy, you'll be passing through my area. I'm north of Hardin on the Bighorn. I've been seeing a few birds, but we lost all of ours in a 5 mile wide hail storm in '11. Definitely more than last year, but not great. I've heard the upper valley...

The smallest channel here will freeze if we have about 3 days at -20. There will be chunks of ice, but with Yellowtail dam upstream, we don't freeze here.

Well, come on down and take a look..... the river is split in thirds right here and the channel at the far side of the island isn't all that wide... kinda necked down in a funnel like. I don't own a boat, but there is a State launch half a mile or so upstream and another 4 miles down. I will...

The pheasant situation is depressing.... The rest of the valley seems to be having a good year, and right here we haven't recovered much from last year. There is a 30 acre island here, but I'm not sure where to put a blind. I am planning on repurposing a sheep shed, or as much of it that makes...

We might be able to work something out.... I live on the Bighorn now, but our pheasant numbers are down still. Lost the first hatch in the flood last year and then the second in a hailstorm on August 12, 2011. What I do have is plenty of fowl, but have never hunted them and have no decoys or...

any help, please? (sorry it's long)

My aunt showed me some stuff with a clicker. She has used it on her dogs some, but said that she used it a lot, with great success, on horses. I think I'll try it on the girl and see if I can get her to relate her behaviors with a reward. Thanks for reminding me of it. :)

any help, please? (sorry it's long)

Thanks for the advice. She is a frustrating critter sometimes, but I try to remember that it is not her fault. I have got all of them to sit and wait for a treat, but it only works if I have a treat in my hand. I think they are all smart enough, I just have to work to get the right behaviors...

any help, please? (sorry it's long)

I have a problem that I need help with, actually a couple. I have recently moved my lab and I in with my dad and his 2 labs and chessie. My uncle had a stroke, so I am now an accidental farmer and actually enjoy it, but my Christmas visit has gotten extended for who knows how long. My dog...

    Murphy was right

I don't know the answer on that either. Perhaps the landowner could be approached and asked if they would consider some habitat improvement ideas? Maybe PF has already addressed such things and I don't know about it since I'm not a member.

    Murphy was right

We were down from the Rock Creek WIA. Those birds leave the WIA pretty quickly. I guess it might have to do with dogs chasing them and people shooting at them or it might be the feeders the neighbors have put out. I did notice that the grass is much shorter this year than last. I thought it...

    Murphy was right

I saw a whole lot of birds today, one of which was on legal ground. He was dispatched with and Barry had a good blind retrieve down a 150' cutbank and across a creek. He had a moment when he found it where he looked at the bird and then looked back at me and then seemed to say "Oh yeah, I...

    Yellowstone River

I am curious if more land will end up enrolled in the block management program with the passage of 161. I'm not sure how that will play out.

    Newby here

I would have to agree about the gun shyness and it comes from a "don't do what I did" standpoint. I had taken my dog to the shooting range and had him around while several of us were shooting clays on a few occasions, and he was never bothered by the sounds at all. When the season opened and...

    Yellowstone River

The Horn My dad's side of the family is in Hardin and my aunt has a farm on the river. There are a lot of birds there, but we'll try to keep that our secret. ;)
