We usually stay around aberdeen / groton area when we come out pheasant/waterfowl hunting. I was thinking about trying around the Missouri River next trip. Any thoughts on either type of hunting in that area? What about public access? What time would be best for waterfowl on the river? Etc?

Im from Pa. so i can t speak on bird populations in areas this year. We hunt basically the 1 hr radius of Aberdeen. Get or download the atlas to see where public land is. Our best luck was in brown yellow or red areas. If you can find food, water and cover in an area togther you will usually...

Got ours too. So much nicer making a trip to SD and being able to hunt waterfowl also. When are you going out. We are heading out 11/4 to 11/11. Good luck with both.

I would have to say yes, especially if you can accomidate dogs also, either in the house or a shed of some type with heat. No way im going to afford the big pricey hunts so a more do it yourself on the cheap or ( Reasonable ) works for us.

If you hunt all day and depending on the temperature she may wear out towards the end of your trip. We are from PA. and a dog in great shape in pa is probably a dog in poor to fair shape in SD. Hunting ducks at dawn then hunting pheasant from 10 till dusk our dogs need a day off around day...

You may also want to look into the Nonresident Waterfowl Lisence. You will be in a pretty decent area for that. We hunted waterfowl in morning then hit pheasants at 10am worked out nice
