    Thanks Michigan

Glad you enjoyed god's country across the mighty mac!!! As mentioned above- I think a lot of the WC have moved south so you missed the main flight in the UP. I was in Grayling and hunted 5 hours and we found 15 WC. Some were 3-4 bird coveys. Never experienced that before.

Here is a recent one of Olaf pointing a pigeon. Work has been crazy so I have been trying to keep him sharp by planting pigeons around the property and having him hunt for them. He loves the game! http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/media/20161011_170944.116657/full Enjoy the hunting...

    New Pup

Pigeons would be a great addition to your training. If I had to do the pointing dog training again from the start. I would have a loft and pigeons before the pup. It was amazing how quickly pigeons in a launcher helped to teach my pup!!! Have fun.

    been out yet ?

We hunted for about 5 hours. 20 birds moved. More grouse (12) than woodcock- but the grouse were really jumpy. Had two areas with three birds together rest were singles.

    been out yet ?

Heading up tonight for a day hunt before I have to come home and get back to work... The way the wife has the weekends packed with kids stuff- I envision a lot of day hunts to the north of me happening. We will be hunting around Houghton Lake area- so hope we get into some birds.

    New Pup

My previous dog was a lab from HPK, when they were located in Indiana. Awesome dog that was a joy to train and hunt behind. He retrieved a lot of ducks and geese and hunted grouse, woodcock, pheasant and quail in the uplands. He did have a lot of drive and was a beast... Enjoy your pup!!! I...

    Heading North

Well- if you know covers in regular state and federal forests you probably would be able to add the GEMS units to check out. But the advertising they receive will make them a bit busier in general. I have hunted the Lame duck foot area (I think that is what it was called) one afternoon during...

    Heading North

Lots of good cover in the Pigeon River forest area. There is also a GEMS unit about 45 minutes north that might be worth taking a look at- especially during the week when traffic is down.

Groundhog- really? My dogs have always killed them no problems. What a beaver? any of those around? seen some dogs attacked by beavers that were really badly bit

    keeping birds for training

My PP was/is a bird crazy SOB. If I had to start from scratch again- I would have a loft and pigeons prior to the pup. The work I did with the pigeons far exceeded the pen raised birds and got him steady on point much faster- IMO. I have seen some of the NAVHDA pups catch quail and chuckar and...
