I agree it would have been of benefit to you. I had a guy I met on public that I hunted with for multiple years and became friends with. I had a dog and he didn’t. Agree that it would depend on the vibe. I always looked at it as more chances for my dog to get on more birds.

All is well with him. Rumor is hunting is great the last two days. Sure he will be along to give a report.

IMO fit is number one thing. If you know the silver fits you I’d go that way. Use the extra money to buy some ammo. You mentioned a 28 also. The Joel Etchen Beretta 20/28 gauge combo guns are really nice if you really wanted to treat yourself and have the option of two gauges.

Mike - commend you for getting creative and still getting out to hunt. Lots of options out there for started dogs that would fit the bill nicely. Good luck and keep us posted.

For sake of discussion Goose, do you agree that the standard 2 3/4” 20 gauge load of 1 oz of number 5 or 6 shot at 1200-1350 FPS is a good pheasant round?

I use two of the large ones. Mainly cooking stuff and food in mine. Buddy uses the small one. They work well.
