    I was looking at Brittanys a while back and spent some time talking with the guy who runs Covey Rise Kennel in Iowa. He tries to breed brittanys for the foot hunter.... Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

    docked tails

    My springer's tail isn't docked and he definitely looks different than most. However, the breeder is located in NY, which apparently made tail docking illegal a couple years ago.

    As I posted in another thread, I think the Beretta has a longer length-of-pull than the Browning, so one or the other may fit you incrementally better from that perspective.

    I have a 686 that I really like. Works as it should. I'm a taller person and the 686 has a bit longer length of pull than most of the other guns I looked at.

    You could also get the pointing instinct of the retriever and the retrieving instinct of the pointer.... Maybe just look at the pointing labs they have now?

    More fun

    Ken and River made it to the 5th series. I'm not positive, but I think they let all the dogs that complete the 5th do the water series, which would mean that River will get to complete the trial if she can run a clean 5th.... Updates are coming slow today. Edit: 22 dogs heading to the water...
