    Grouse hunting

Anytime before October is pointless (plenty of birds but too many leaves), but as stated before deer opener is November 4. There are plenty of places to hunt if you have a plat map. State forests, wildlife management areas, and logging land are good options. If I'm free I'd be willing to show...

Changing attitude about pay to hunt ?

On topic: Who ma I to care how others spend their time and money? If a guy wants to pay for hunt, so be it. My brother in law does it every year and from the video it looks super fun. They kill a lot of birds. That being said, I might do it once, but I prefer hunting wild birds by myself. But...

    Blindside for pheasants?

I had the opportunity to use Blindside this weekend at a shooting preserve. As Oneball said, it kills birds. If you hit them they die. Cleaning the birds I only found 1 pellet. They all went completely through the birds while shooting at 20-40 yards. I used a skeet and IC choke. The draw back...

    Blindside for pheasants?

Thanks for the responses! Oneball, did you pattern that using the same choke? Thanks.

    Blindside for pheasants?

Has anyone here used Blindside as a non-tox ammo for pheasants? How did it go? How did it pattern compared to lead? How did it pattern with different chokes compared to lead? If you have any experience I hope to hear from you. Thanks guys

    Steady to wing & shot

One reason In favor of a steady dog that I haven't seen mentioned is that if a bird turns in flight, a dog running through cover may not see this and continue the wrong line, whereas a steady dog would continue to track the bird. Also, a steady dog will get a better mark on a bird.

Field Trail, Hunt test, NAVHD, NSTRA

I'll give the basics on trials and hunt tests. The NAVDA guys and retriever guys will have to fill in what I can't. Field trials: Dogs are judge for their performance. They are competing against the other dogs in the trial. There's only one winner. And there's second place and third place. All...

    Need Help with Puppy Pointing

+1. Wing on a string is a trick to be recorded by video to show your buddies and brag. Birds make a bird dog.

Hunting Wiley birds with French Brittany

You should probably wait until your current dog is finished. I think you'll find that is more enjoyable than trying to develop two young dogs. Also, please don't think an older dog will teach a young dog to hunt. A young dog can learn from an older dog when hunted together, but most likely the...

Hunting Wiley birds with French Brittany

I would not be whoaing or saying much of anything to a young dog while hunting wild birds. Even in her second season, I allowed my Pointer to learn from the birds and I train while training. My concern is that I don't know where the birds or what's truly happening, and I don't want to correct...

    New pointer

I believe you hear more about Brittany's here simply because they are more popular. I've looked into PPs, and like any breed, it seems like it depends on the line.
