    Same Dog Less One Eye

My Dog also lost an eye last month, at first thought it was Uvieitis but test after test could not find a cause. Traveled to a canine ophthalmologist and he discovered a tumor in the eye. Eye gone, spirits high, and he can still pick off a frisbee at 25 yards. Hunting the one eyed dog this...

    Pink Setter Syndrome

I have tried everything from the tail guards from gun dog supply to vet wrap, EMT gel, etc. High quality duct tape is the only thing that works, the end of the tail is a little bald at the end of season but no more blood trail from floor to ceiling whenever he gets excited in the house. With...

    Well Done S.D.

Another successful South Dakota trip is on the books. The annual trip consisting of my brother, brother in-laws, father in-law, and college buddy recently concluded and this year is one of the better trips in our 8 years of traveling to S.D. Once again Uguide, stands by the word and provided...

Hunting at wings north? Good? Bad? Yes? No?

I have hunted Wings North a few times. It is a good operation, the birds are usually good flyers and there is a good mixture of cover. The only downfall I see is the fields are separated allowing for multiple hunts to take place at the same time. I have always felt safe (ample room between...

    Just saying

At least you can now cultivate Hemp in CO, I wonder if it makes for good nesting cover. The birds might taste a little funny though!

    Waterproof, breathable shell.

I am a big fan of Patagonia Products, although not built specifically for upland, they have superior quality over many of the brands on the market, and a lifetime guarantee. The integral jacket is pretty darn good for the price...

To an old dog and her owner - an apology

Well done Croc! This story reminds me of my Father in Laws Springer that was laid to rest a few seasons ago. His struggle was internal and I believe he was tormented by the idea of replacing his hunting partner that he loved so much. Much like your experience in the field, he felt that by...

LL Bean Technical Boots - made the plunge

This is my second season with mine, I bought them from the LL Bean outlet for $50, they are a fantastic pair of boots...

new studies supporting pen raised bird success

Your intro was a fantastic read... Living in New York state we have a strong put and take mentality with minimal interest in Habitat. Working with Pheasants Forever in Central New York, where most of our habitat projects have been on private property with Pen Bird releases we have seen...

    Labs tail bleeding

Welcome to happy tail syndrome... My dog gets this every season. (Or did) I have tried many different approaches to reduce the abrasion, tail guards, vet wrap, mole skin... All worked for a little while but he was always throwing them off. Finally one day out of a little frustration I wrapped...

Central New York PF Ladies Hunt

Just wanted to share a couple of images with the group. I had the privilege of hosting a Pheasant's Forever Ladies Only hunt (a few of us guys were allowed to tag along and run our dogs). The weather was miserable but everyone managed get off a few shots and most brought down a bird or two...

    Leg Gaiters anyone.

I second the Outdoor Research Gators, I am on my second pair. The first pair lasted 6 seasons and are still in decent shape except for all of the burrs in the Velcro. I use them on almost every hunt. Keeps my feet dry and I can wear shorter boots that are more comfortable for those long SD fields!

    First season in NY

Well hopefully Snow Fun is still around. I have hunted a lot at North Harbour Outfitters but they are pulling way back in the terms of availability this year. As for the Finger Lakes Region and the area South West of Lake Ontario there is some better cover, when you start heading closer to...

    First season in NY

Howdy fellow NY hunter, I also hunt in the Henderson Harbor area... The state released birds are pretty hard to come by towards the late season. Although we are blessed with some great grouse cover in the area. Snow Fun is also a pretty good preserve if you are looking to get after a few late...
