I would try some form of Heel Lock lacing before giving up on the boots. I do something similar to this and my heels no longer slip, thus no blisters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbUAMPQDjyk

This is what I do with my Alpha, but now I'm thinking I should add some form of redundancy. Maybe some paracord with a carabiner or one of those gear keeper zingers or something.
