    Southwest Nebraska

Mutthunt: How was the hunting? I am going to try to sneak out for the last day of the season.

    Southwest Nebraska

I was east of that area but snuck out Monday after the snow storm. It was awesome tracking conditions. Was surprised I finished with a limit because I could not hit a thing. Missed four chip shots and two others that were killable before I was finally able to connect. Didn't miss after that. I...

    Sandhills and SW report

There are not birds everywhere, but there are birds. I have been in NE for a few years and learned a little each year. I spent a lot of time my first year exploring an area that looked awesome, but just did not hold birds. I think I shot one bird all year. I found out I was just in the wrong...

    Sandhills and SW report

Went out to western NE for the muzzy deer hunt, and did quite well the first day. My buddy still had a tag but day 2 I chased pheasants in the afternoon. Pheasants numbers weren't as high in the public areas as years past, but still managed to bag a limit. There were high populations of birds...

    Crops and Moisture Levels

Thanks for the update beboswell. I usually don't get out west until later in the year. Good to hear the CRP has good growth. Last year it seemed really thin. Out east there is more corn harvested and it has been a good year so far. Three trips and 8 birds, all without a dog. Snuck out Friday...

    Any reports on the opener??

Snuck out to my usual spot in SouthCentral NE. I don't have a dog (graduate school and at a place that we cannot have dogs). I took a 14 year old from church that finished hunter safety right before the hunt for his first hunting experience, and another newbie that has experience hunting but...

Taking a quick dip to Nebraska

How did you do? I snuck out tonight to give it one last shot. Hunted one field and saw five hens and one rooster. Not shot on the rooster. Was wishing we had snow so I could track them, but will have to wait for next year.

Taking a quick dip to Nebraska

The water that I was near was not very deep, but the ice was solid. No cracking or even breaking along the edges. Today was pretty warm and a lot of snow melted but I wouldn't be too worried. Careful on some of the roads that are not maintained. SE NE roads can be a mess when they are wet. I...

Taking a quick dip to Nebraska

In SE Nebraska it is hit or miss. If you are looking at the Public Land Atlas the OFW CRP (red) and Open Land (yellow) you can use lead. I thought that the WMA's (green) were hit or miss but the online atlas does not list them as non-toxic only so maybe you can use lead. NE is great at posting...

Looking for a Pair of Chickens to mount

Did you ever get a pair of chickens? I shot one (I know not a pair) this week if you are interested.
