    Sandy Hills State Park

I drew that hunt a couple of years ago. Its a rough walk. Lots of plum thickets. I believe we found 2 coveys. Its not really a good spot for pheasants.

Anyone go out after Prairie Chickens?

Went out on Sunday. Lots of walking..... we saw one chicken flush wild at 100 yards. The dogs did get some work on a covey of very young quail. Surprised they could fly. May go for a walk tomorrow morning too.

    Advice

Nick, sorry about Lucy. You did the right thing by her. I love that you buried her with the vest and some feathers. Very classy! Let the good memories live on!

    Boots

Just came home with a pair of danner pronghorns from cabela's today. Impressed with the comfort. I'm confident that spending the extra money on some quality boots will be well worth it. I haven't had good luck with boots the last several years. I did try on the new Cabela's upland boots...

    PC

Went out this morning for about a 5 mile walk in the smoky hills. No prairie chickens encountered, only one small 7 bird quail covey right next to a marijuana patch. It was nice to get the dog out and get a few birds in his nose. I should have remembered the camera dangit! I'm enjoying the...

New Gun for the New Season?

CRP, I'm not sure how many people are still employed with Boeing in Wichita, several years ago a company named Spirit bought most of Boeing's facilities and took many of the employees with them. With many other aircraft companies in town I don't think it should have a huge impact on the new...

New Gun for the New Season?

I handled one at the new Cabelas in Wichita. Very light and easy on the eyes. Time to save my pennies!

New Gun for the New Season?

I've got the Spartan in 20 guage as well. Have been using it exclusively the last 5 years or so. No problems whatsoever. It knocks em out of the sky just fine. I do have my eye on a nice little 28 guage ringneck side by side, but I'm too cheap at the moment.

craziest thing you have seen a pheasant do

I once saw a rooster jump just high enough above the thigh high crp field we were hunting to take a peek at us. He was probably 60 yards ahead of us hunters and 30 yards ahead of the dogs. He ended up flushing at a dirt road about 5 minutes after he took a peek at us. Three of us took some...
