    Pheasant in Ottumwa region?

“Good” in comparison to other parts of the state, further NW, no. But you may be able to run into a few birds in that area.

    Questions, First Time Hunting Iowa

Definitely head west, as you’re on the far eastern side of the state, where bird numbers are lower. Anywhere west of I-35 and north of I-80 should produce birds.

    Quail

Not the easiest of things to do in Iowa, but I would suggest quail numbers to be up. I’ve found more, and bigger coveys this season while chasing pheasants. Ping me and I’ll try to help you out.

    Checking in ...

Checking in ... again. Good to read some of us are having some success. My season so far has very much been similar to what you all have shared in total. I've been getting blanked in some fields, yet find 60+ birds in others. More often than not, persistence pays off and we come home with...

The pheasants use the corn to escape the grass and feed. And since most don’t hunt standing corn, that means one’s access to pheasants near standing corn is usually quite limited.

    Checking in ...

Good to see some activity on here! Kraig ... text and we'll find a time to get out. All ... I got out on Monday with a friend, hunting near Des Moines, and we got our 6 in a couple hours. Saw decent numbers, with corn still standing. I also found myself with a free day today, and decided...

    Checking in ...

First time checking in this season. How’s everyone doing so far? Seeing good numbers? How much corn is still in where you hunt? How are you shooting? My buddy and I have been out four times so far, taking two of our kids on our last outing. We’ve seen good rooster counts, but I’d say fewer hens...

    2016 Season in northern iowa

I agree and have experienced similar. I think numbers to be about the same as last year, overall. Variation in grass/cover seems to be even more so the ticket to good numbers this year. My friend and I are hunting, on average, twice per week, getting our kids afield as often as the weather...

    Why so quiet?

I found and sent him an email at his work. Now we wait.

    Why so quiet?

Nope. KP and I hunted together today and were talking about that - not hearing from Ken.

    Hows everyone been doing?

Similar success for my buddy and me. IIRC, we've bagged 57 so far with another trip planned tomorrow. Like you, we're finding the birds spread out and often pretty hunter wise. We are killing nearly all roosters within range, supporting our bagged number. Very few misses so far, which is normal...

    Why so quiet?

Could be the case, sure. I sent KBell a message -- no response just yet.

    Why so quiet?

Anyone else think the forum is slow this year? Where are KBell and what have traditionally been the other consistent contributors? I hope all remain well. Sure would be nice if this domain had a mobile app for easier use. I'm sure that would drive traffic up. Uploading and linking to...
