“Good” in comparison to other parts of the state, further NW, no. But you may be able to run into a few birds in that area.

Definitely head west, as you’re on the far eastern side of the state, where bird numbers are lower. Anywhere west of I-35 and north of I-80 should produce birds.

Not the easiest of things to do in Iowa, but I would suggest quail numbers to be up. I’ve found more, and bigger coveys this season while chasing pheasants. Ping me and I’ll try to help you out.

The pheasants use the corn to escape the grass and feed. And since most don’t hunt standing corn, that means one’s access to pheasants near standing corn is usually quite limited.

I agree and have experienced similar. I think numbers to be about the same as last year, overall. Variation in grass/cover seems to be even more so the ticket to good numbers this year. My friend and I are hunting, on average, twice per week, getting our kids afield as often as the weather...

Similar success for my buddy and me. IIRC, we've bagged 57 so far with another trip planned tomorrow. Like you, we're finding the birds spread out and often pretty hunter wise. We are killing nearly all roosters within range, supporting our bagged number. Very few misses so far, which is normal...
