    L.C. Smith Feild

I have a couple of photos of my LC Smith first picture is the gun on the bottom, second picture it's the one on the top. I purchased it from a lady that was looking to get rid of her late husband's shotguns and that was the only one that I had an interest in. The condition is very good for its...

LC, thank you for your response it is nice to have some expert background on the old side by sides. I didn't realize that the pre-1930 models were nitro proofed. I have a beautiful 1921 field grade with 85-90% case hardening color intact that I was reluctant to shoot because of its age.

Frank, The barrels on your shotgun would normally take 2 1/2 inch shells not the 2 3/4" most modern guns are tooled for. I have a couple of the pre 1930 LC Smith side by sides and they are very fine guns, but they were made for black powder shot shells not the Nitro Powder Shot Shells that our...

    Honest question!!!!

Overall, I think Iowa has some great opportunities for the upland bird hunter to fill his / her daily bag limit of pheasants. It is like any sport the more effort you put into it the more you gain. I have been hunting Iowa for many years and have good success on most of our hunts. Yes, you...

    Needing Help

Your next trip head North and West of of Mason City the bird counts there have been outstanding this year. There is a lot of Public Ground to cover up there. My friends were kicking 50-60 Rooster per field. We were seeing 20 -25 per field. We had to hit the cattails very hard because that...

    Needing Help

Randy, I have been hunting in the general area most of the season this year and the trips that I have been there the winds were very strong which didn't play well for our hunting plans. What weekend were you there? Coming earlier really wouldn't have mattered to much because we really didn't...

    Opening Weekend Predictions

Opening weekend in North Central Iowa was a little disappointing, not nearly the number of birds that we have seen in the past. We did put up some birds and saw some good size roosters but the young roosters from this years hatch were far and few between. A lot of walking with a good brace of...

What gears a new hunter must have

Connie, Just reading the responses from everyone and they all make great sense but no one took the time to ask you what kind of hunting that you wanted to get started in. I can only assume since you are on a Upland Hunting forum that you may be looking to get started pheasant or quail hunting...

    Getting dog to point

I can't agree more with the last 2 post. The bond that you build with your hunting partner should be one that last a life time.

    Crop Reports 2021

I went to two different Scheels over the weekend and all the had was Federal 20 Gauge on the shelf, no 12 Gauge at all! I talk with one of the store clerks and he said they had stock the shelve with all the 12 Gauge that they had early that morning and it was sold out very quickly. I will...

    Crop Reports 2021

Remy, Thanks for the update on Scheels I was planning on going there today. By the way nice looking shorthairs in your picture. The ammo shortage in general has been well documented across the nation but the last couple of years the lack of field loads on shotgun shells in truly incredible...
