    Quail Hunting

I am lucky to have alot of upland opportunities where i live, but i honestly enjoy hunting quail the most. Its a ton of fun to watch the dogs working a covey then work the singles after the covey blows up....

    Dog sits when pointing

If you just got the pup a week ago then i am going to assume that it is 12 weeks or younger?? Throw away the wing on a stick, take the pup out, let it run around, let it be a pup, let it romp, chase, terrorize etc.....Start teching basic commands in a bit, leave sit out until whoa is trained...

    Weimshadow Kennel

I have seen a few really nice weims, and i have always liked the breed...but it can be tough to find real field ones. Personally i would attack the training just like any other pointing breed....I would suspect that it will be similiar to most other AKC bred pointers....Evaluate birdiness and...

    The great debate!

My view is obviously skewed compared to alot of you.....But the OP said upland, waterfowl and all round not pheasant:) and where i live and hunt your dog better be able to bust through cattails and burn up the chukar hills.... Sooo...with that in Mind I will take the GSP as the best upland...

How often do you train/run your dogs?

My dogs get worked at least 5 days a week. It may only be for 10-15 minutes training some days but they get at least some kind of formal training about 5 days a week, and they get ran at least 4 days a week.

One test down, two to go...

HOLY COW..... I don't know how many people know much about the VJP but a 77 is basically a perfect score and incredibly hard to pull off, maybe a couple dogs a year pull that off.... you need some really tuff conditions and some luck, especially with the rabbits to pull that off. Amazing...

    Supplements

Yes, my wife is a vet technician and she brought home a new product about a month ago, some kind of joint supplement that is a weekly shot, very affordable, less then most glucosamine based products and it seems to be making a difference in our older dog. However, i can't remember what it is...

"Started" Brittany out of Nolans last bullet

I would not be afraid to look...My wife and i brought home a "lightly started" 8 month old brittany a few weeks ago for free, gent couldn't get rid of them offered free to hunting home. Had him meet us at one of my private hunting area's and ran her on quail and pheasants, she ran well and...

What do you consider a big running dog?

In pure distance...i don't consider a pointer big running unless its consistantly over 200yds and often clear of 300yds out...thats big running... Now in terms of pheasant hunting i would consider anything over 100yds pretty big for the pheasant hunting cover i frequent.

    What's Hardcore?

the answer is simple really....Hardcore is all day chukar hunting in the snow and ice in january.....Snow,ice,cliffs,shale,frozen water bottles, etc etc....or are we just talking about stupid...hmm...i sometimes can't figure out where the line is. I do know that i was pissed when 1hr into my...

    10 Month Old French Brittany

Only things i would add......as many bird contacts as you can get him on, and hunt him alone.....The other dog will be more of a distraction then a help!!! Let him go out and hunt on his own and figure it out.

    Stoeger Condor

I have had a stoeger condor for about 6yrs now, up until this year it was my all use gun, upland, ducks, and i also use it for sporting clays(although not recommended). I have had to have one of the firing pin springs get loose and the top barrel wouldn't tap the primer hard enough, it was a $50...

    group counts/personal limits?

Well, here in oregon shooting more then your limit, or "group" huntin is illegal so i pretty much stay away from it and have never had a problem with anyone i am hunting with... The only i have run into a issue is duck hunting where a couple of us have shot at a group of birds, and multiple...
