I have been hunting in the Winner area for the past 29 years. When I started, the streets and bars were packed on Friday and Saturday night. The motels were full as were the restaurants and diners. Last week, the town was all but dead. I saw very few other hunters at Runnings or the pheasant...
I forgot to congratulate you on your career. I started hunting pheasants with a great uncle 70 years ago. I sent a picture of the 2 of us to the PF magazine and got it published on the back page. It has been a great ride. I still have the Winchester 1200 my dad gave me for Christmas in 63. It...
I am getting ready for my 29th trip to SD a week from today. There will be 11 of us this year. We adopted a 5 year old Golden female about a month ago and she is doing just fine and getting use to us. I plan to mainly shoot my AL-48 20 ga due to it's light weight. I feel like I aged more this...
I am 78 and have been wearing Red Wing Irish Setters the past several years. The soles are soft and wear out as I was wearing them on a concrete sidewalk when walking my dog during the Winter. I am on my 3rd pair of soles.

I see no reason to use these exotic loads out of a 20 gauge for pheasants. For years, I shoot ordinary off the shelf loads out of my Franchi AL48 and have no problems getting birds,
Our Golden got a good report from the vet on the Friday before and I went! Got back yesterday and had a great time hunting. We had great weather on Friday and Saturday. It was a bit wet Sunday, but not enough so for a lot of mud. We limited out each of the 3 days in relatively short time. My...
Many people prefer too much barrel in my opinion. Shorter is quicker and easier to carry in heavy cover. Because of a lack of a receiver, the O/U's can seem a bit shorter. I think you could get a very nice Beretta or Browning that will last forever.
Hopefully I will be leaving in 2 weeks for the Winner area. Our Golden was diagnosed with cancer recently and if she is not feeling well I will stay home to take care of her. She seems to feel fine and I have an appointment to get a CBC for her. If all is well, I will head West.
My group has...
