Are you better at sporting clays or wild birds?

This for me. I shoot at 1000's of SC, Trap, Skeet, and 5 stand targets a year, but less than 50 pheasants.

    weekend reports!!

I have not been out in CO yet. First trip won't be for a couple of weeks.

Do u shoot a second time at a bird that’s been hit?

I make that a practice when it's safe for hunters and dogs. I did it several times on my recent 3-day hunt near Winner, SD. My 3-yr old lab Tucker had a great time, retrieving a whole bunch of birds. Our group of 9 had 2 labs and the outfitter/guide's 2 GSPs. I always maintain that the cost of...

    Gloves

I never thought of that. Good idea. I've got so many pairs of gloves, always looking for the perfect ones.

I got a choice tomorrow and a rooster tonight.

Your Goldens pose well for the camera.

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Is Changing, Or Has Changed

Last year in Winner we had a much tougher time finding a breakfast restaurant that was open.

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Is Changing, Or Has Changed

Your last statement sounds like my few trips to eastern Colorado the last few years. I justify the cost of a trip to SD as "it's for the dogs".

    Ground-pounding opinions

Back to ground pounding. Never for me--I just send one of my labs. It's a hoot watching them on long chases of running cripples. If it's an open field the dog always wins.

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Is Changing, Or Has Changed

I hunt with a group (from Denver and other parts of the country) that's been going to Winner for 10 or more years. I've noticed the same thing over the last few years. We always stayed at The Warrior Inn (changed name to Knights Inn) and it's now closed. At least those of us with dogs stayed...

Old dogs still want to retrieve

I think they think like the line in a Toby Keith song-"I'm as good once as I ever was".

    My Pheasant Hunting Farewell

Sorry to hear that Zeb and best wishes for your trip down to Arizona and future hobbies. Please have JonnyB keep me posted about our prospective "Geezer" hunt. I was looking forward to meeting you there. Tom

    Opening weekend

I don't recall Nebraska ever opening this early. Usually it's just a week before Colorado.

    Pointing Labs

By "pulled the trigger" do you mean that you put down a deposit for a planned litter, or for a litter on the ground, or actually picked a pup and took it home? Tucker has pointed all 10 chukar I have put out during two session over the last 2 weeks at my club, Kiowa Creek Sporting Club. I...

    Pointing Labs

Parker (rip May 2024), Brady mostly retired as he nears 12, and Tucker 3 all came from pointing lines and all pointed. Like noted above they all pointed very well on pen raised birds, not so well on wild roosters that don't like to sit. They all came from different kennnels.
