UplandHntr, Quail will work fine. I'd like to start him out with some frozen birds to make sure he maintains a soft mouth with them, then I'd like to move into live birds with limited flight ability. Am I on the right track here ?

Thanks Bob, so in your opinion would it seem weird if I asked someone with 2 dogs if my son and I could hunt with him ?

1pheas4, I participate in the McHenry County Conservation District's waterfowl hunts. I'd love to be able to hunt pheasant that close to home... I'm not sure how, but if you need ANY assistance in working with the District on possible pheasant opportunities, I'd be glad to help in any way I can.

Just got an email stating I was successful in the lottery for a PM hunt in Silver Springs. My son and I don't have a dog. Has anyone here hunted Silver Springs before ? And typically, how receptive are hunters to allowing others to join them with their dogs ?
