    Tough Winter

It's been a tough winter this year in NW Iowa. I don't expect an increase in numbers next year as we've had about 40" of snow as Feb. Usually 28" or under is the magic number for pheasants to increase the following year.

    Crop

Was cleaning a bird tonight and it's crop was huge. I could tell it wasn't corn or beans, but seeds and a large green material. I opened it up it looked like spinach. I was tired so I'll examine better tomorrow. Anyone else ever see this and what is it?

    Hunt Suggestions for a NR

Heading up mid week should be pretty good as don't have to compete with the opener. Lot just depends on the harvest schedule. Don't overlook the SW as heading from Kansas may be worth a day.

Iowa Has CRP but No Birds....Why?

The primary pheasant range in Iowa is now corn and beans from road to road. Been tiled, bulldozed, and removed. More crp in south. We don't have the pastures, hay ground, sloughs, and other vital habitat anymore like the Dakotas.

    28 Gauge for Pheasants

Where non-tox is required, can steel be used effectively in a 28 to take pheasants?

I decided I don't know squat about pheasant hunting!

The more the dogs hunt the better I look.

    Rivers West Pointer Vest Question

It's a real nice vest. I use it for my DK. When it's cold I put an underliner vest under it.
